Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Willmott, a former lecturer at the Royal Military Academy and author of The Second World War in the East, has created an excellent one-volume general history of World War I. He does a good job of discussing the causes of the conflict as well as looking at the war's aftermath, years after it ended. This richly illustrated volume is organized in a combination thematic and chronological arrangement. Readers have the option of either studying the war from beginning to end or picking out special interrelated topics like the "War at Sea" or the "War in the Air." Avid scholars of World War I will not likely find much new information here but will certainly appreciate the beautiful two-page photo spreads and the stunning charts, graphs, and maps that give this book a unique visual appeal. The only disappointing thing is that many of the maps are relegated to tiny boxes and sidebars instead of getting the full-page layout they so richly deserve. Recommended for all public libraries.-Brian K. DeLuca, Avon Lake P.L., OH Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
