Overview

Anyone whose interest in World War II extends beyond watching late-night reruns of John Wayne movies should have this book on the shelf.

It's not so much a narrative as a visually stunning chronology filled with photos, maps, time-lines, articles on everything from major battles to strategies, tidbits on sneaky spy gadgets and weapons, and insights into the gear and everything else soldiers of either side typically carried with them. You can think of this book as a kind of complete history in concentrated form. Each of the nine chapters opens with an overview of the military and political situation in the respective theaters during that chapter's covered time period. The final section teaches that wars never simply start and end; they evolve from one form into another, and there are short- and long-term consequences. In the case of World War II, those consequences were and are widespread and profound.

DK has applied its customary graphics-intense method to World War II, creating a striking coffee-table book full of brief paragraphs summarizing all the major events. Great book

I bought this book for my dad for father's day. He absolutely loved it. The pages are full of pictures and facts. Whenever his friends come over he breaks out the book and starts showing it to them. My dad loves things about WWI and WWII and the Vietnam War and all those. So if you are or know someone who has an interest in these topics this book is a must buy. I would highly recommend it.
