About the Author

Howard Goldblatt teaches Chinese literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he also edits the scholarly journal Modern Chinese Literature. Author or editor of numerous monographs, anthologies, articles, and essays, in Chinese and English, he is particularly active in translation, including Li Ang’s The Butcher’s Wife, Pai Hsien-yung’s Crystal Boys, Heavy Wings by Zhang Jie, the Nieman speeches by Liu Binyan, and novels by Jia Pingwa, Ai Bei, Gu Hua, and Mo Yan.
