Overview

Maybe because his mouth and ego get in the way a bit too often, Ted Nugent is one of hard rock's most underrated/overlooked guitarists. And with just about every single veteran hard rock band getting the "tribute treatment" during the '90s and early 21st century, 2006's World's Greatest Tribute to Ted Nugent is one of the few instances where the tribute in question is warranted. Former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee (another woefully underrated player in his own right) handles all the six-string duties here, as a "who's who" of '80s-era hair metal frontmen supply vocals. Included are Warrant's Jani Lane on "Free for All," Faster Pussycat's Taime Downe on "Hey Baby," and L.A. Guns' Phil Lewis on "Journey to the Center of the Mind," among others. Also included are a few non-hair metallists as well, including Circus of Power's Alex Mitchell on "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang," as well as the Nuge himself, tackling Aerosmith's "Rag Doll." Not the greatest tribute ever assembled, but it'll do (although it's interesting that the album includes such an overabundance of glam metallists -- the Nuge's '70s/caveman era was the antithesis of '80s glam).
