Overview

Bigger and fatter than all the other microbes in the valley, Wilton feels ostracised and out of place. But even more worryingly, their world has become unhealthy and toxic with mass illness and flash storms. Setting out to find out what is wrong, Wilton meets Algy, a tiny microbe small enough to sit on his shoulder (and take refuge in his guts) who accompanies Wilton on his quest. Taking a wrong turn in an effort to escape some killer fungus, they inadvertently end up outside - and discover (thanks to some helpful bacteria) that the world in which they live is actually one giant organism called Janet.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-Wilton, a fat, outcast worm, and a parasitic microbe named Algy, befriend each other while inside a human body in this humorous tale by Morris Gleitzman. Wilton is on a mission to find other like worms and a place to fit in. Algy is trying to save the human world that he and the other parasites live in. Their journey together takes them outside the human body, into the body of a dog, and back to the human girl to wage war against killer fungi. The author reads the story with feeling, showing the characters' emotions through the changes in his voice. Primitive sounding music is played briefly between the chapters. This quirky fantasy is sure to attract fans of the Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey (Scholastic) and other gross humor series.-Cynthia Grabke, Thayer Public Library, Braintree, MA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
