Overview

Strictly business? Try telling that to her heart…

Worth It, Book 1

Alexander Worth, President and CEO of Worth Luxury Goods, is a man never to be crossed. His unwavering sense of responsibility to the family business requires him to always be in complete and utter control. Until it comes to Tessa Crawford.

She’s quietly professional, shy, voluptuous…and she works for him. Which means she is the one woman he must never touch, no matter how hard his gut twists with need for her.

After rising above her disadvantaged childhood, Tessa knows the last thing she should do is risk throwing it all away by falling into bed with her sexy boss. But on an extended European business trip, all self-imposed barriers burn away in the heat of their sizzling chemistry.

Once back home, though, whispers of corporate espionage turn into full-blown scandal—and Tessa finds out the hard way where Alex’s loyalties lie. Determined to soldier on, she picks herself up and carries on with a secret, yet welcomed burden. Never guessing that Alex will make a reappearance in her life, ready to show her once and for all that family does, indeed, come first.

Warning: Contains a sweet-yet-strong woman, and a bossy alpha male brought to his knees by the woman he desperately loves. Involves enough begging and groveling that the reader may be tempted to “accidentally” leave it for her significant other to “find”. For instructional purposes only, of course!

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Forbidden is a terrific start to author Karen Erickson's new Playing With Fire series.  Combining very sensual and explicit love scenes with equally tender and emotional storytelling isn't easy, but Ms. Erickson pulls it off in Forbidden flawlessly.”

Meet the Author

Karen Erickson has always loved the written word. From being one of the best readers in her kindergarten class to penning romantic stories that never ended about Duran Duran in high school, she always wanted to write. It just took her a while to seriously pursue it. With the birth of her third child came a realization – it’s one thing to talk about writing a book, another thing entirely to actually do it. She’s been published since 2006. Karen’s a native Californian who lives in the foothills below Yosemite with her husband, three children, one dog, and too many cats.

    Ok

Ok, so the plot was a little predictable, but that didnt bother me. I liked the synopsis. What i didn't like was the whiny heroine. She started off great. Capable, efficient, pretty....but then she had some really bad scenes that i just couldnt get over (hence only the 3 stars). I didnt really feel the connection between the two leads. I guess that could be contributed to the fact that i didn't like her (i found her much too insecure). Not bad, but not great.

    Ready for the next one...

As posted on The Smutty Kitty 4.5 out of 5 Licks

Right off the bat I liked this one. Hot boss with a very properly dressed sexy secretary. One whirlwind trip later and they both are in love but neither is really truly willing to share their feelings. This was a great start to a new series. I really enjoyed the relationship that built between Tessa and Alex. The story is told so well that I found myself lost in it and literally couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I stayed up way too late finishing this one on a work night. lol So I recommend you wait until a day you don’t have to work to read it. You won’t want to put it down!! I cannot wait for the next books in this series!!

    Soooo slowwwww

If you like your story with the heroine spending up to the last 6-8 pages putting herself down, questionging if he really likes, calling herself names, telling herself she'd Never fit into his world When she is his personal assistant, brushing everything off he says and doesas not meaning anything to him. Alex pretty much does a male version of "she makes me feel like an untried teenager" and the whole not understanding this feeling in his chest. And his character is annoying. Its like he says the words but you just don't feel it. You have probably 185ish pages b4 he even kisses her. BORING....... predictable. Ending of book so so. I have zero desire to read about Hunter. This book was snail slow, little action and no real character development.

    Worth reading

The book was of course predictable, but it was still refreshing. The overall story was good, but I believe that some areas were choppy and underdeveloped. The Tessa character could have been a little more refined, but I understood where the author wanted to take her. I enjoyed the ending, but I thought that Tessa should have strengthened her position in the end. Let me add, that I did read the book all in one sitting. : )

    terrible ending

without trying to spoil the end of the book, i was so disappointed in the actions of the main characters at the end of the book. his thoughts and behavior (and her acceptance of this behavior) was completely unbelievable and cast a negative pall over the entire book.

I took a chance to read it. I really enjoyed it very much...I think it is a great idea to make the first book in the series free, this definitely has enticed me to read the other two !! I will definitely look for more from this author! I really enjoyed the chemistry between these two characters!!

I felt like it was a pretty good basic romance. If you want to read a book with a somewhat interesting but predictable at points plot its for you. The last line it the cheesest line in the world but still it was a comfy read-when-i'm-feeling-the-need-for-a-quick-romance book.

The writing was good and kept me interested, but the female protagonist was a total Mary Sue - too perfect, too put-upon, and too much a blank slate. She had a tough upbringing, we're told, but we never see a grain of toughness, just a long-suffering mousiness that somehow ignores the fact that she's smokin' hot. She's like that stone-gorgeous BFF who's fun to be with when she isn't begging for reassurance or wailing about some man doing her wrong. Bless her heart, you want to smack her sometimes. Here, honey, I'll help you torch his Ferrari and buy you a banana split; he's just not worth it. And he isn't.

Ok, now I love/hate Alexander Worth! What a great story full of emotional turmoil and conflict at every turn. Alex really tries to do the right thing but just is not very skilled in the care and handling of a serious relationship; and - - he is in denial.

Tessa wants to keep her job as Alex's assistant but loses a little piece of her heart to him every day. Her naivete is a little wearing at times, but you can't help but empathize with her. She does fare better than Alex by living somewhat vicariously through her fantasies.

The story flows beautifully through the ups and downs of their relationship over a period of weeks until it's abrupt and brutal end. It picks up again one year later and, while we never see the emotions Alex and Tessa have felt during that year, they are immediately and blatantly obvious.

It's a love story, you know there's an HEA at the end but you can't help but wonder, as you read, if it will truly happen. There are many twists and turns and you just want to slap Tessa and wring Alex's neck most of the time, but I ended up smiling.

I picked this book up as a freebie, read it in a day, and will definitely be buying the rest of this Trilogy. Can't wait to read Hunter's and Rhett's stories, if they are as good as Alex and Tessa's I'll be re-reading all of them many times over. Thank you Karen Erickson!

    Predictable but good

The plot was pretty pretictable, but what romance novels arent? The romance was good without being over the top and crude. Great book

Not bad but Boring (cookie cutter)

It wad boss wants assistant, assistant loves boss, have sex, get preggers, have missunderstanding, she runs away, he pines for her, bump into each other and live happily ever after. No really investment in characters and a boring plot.

    Urgh...

I made it all the way to page 281 and couldn't take anymore of her whinny attitude GOSH!!! It could have been really good!!! I do have to give points due to the author writing a full story though; 450 pages!!! Seems the new trend is writing short stories with cliffhangers....

    BEST BOOK EVER!

This was by far one of the best books I've ever read, and this is coming from someone who has a hard time staying interested in a book. There was never a dull moment, and I LOVED the ending. I couldn't put it down, I even finished it in a little under 2 day. I highly recommend it!

    Decent

Drawn to each other from the beginning of the book but not falling into each others arms, makes it a little more believable. A surprise added. Not all smooth sailing.

I like how you get to hear both his and her thoughts.
