Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Hazel Buys
Capitalizing on the natural curiosity of young children and on their appetite for the silly and absurd, one goofy question after another rolls by, accompanied by illustrations in bright primary colors. Simple words and repetitive language create a sing-song pattern matched by the thick, organic lines of the illustrations. The reader is implored to tell if he would like to be an animal or a tool or a musical instrument. Would she like a different nose or hair color or to be tall, short, fat, or skinny? The playful questions piled one after another create more interest in what question comes next, rather than what an answer might be. Curiosity entices, encouraging the reader to keep on reading, the principle goal of these beginning reader books. Well-suited to reading aloud or silently, listening or looking, this book, part of the "Bright and Early Books/Beginner Books" series, is a good choice for a beginning reader or reluctant reader program in a preschool or elementary school.
