Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Sally Northam, RN, PhD (Texas Woman's University)
Description: This is a comprehensive guide to wound management.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide basic and advanced information on wound healing and wound care therapies, to promote collaborative wound management between nurses and physical therapists, and to promote an understanding of wound management. The interdisciplinary team of experts did an outstanding job of meeting their objectives.
Audience: This book is designed to be a resource for healthcare professionals involved in wound management. The collaboration of 15 wound experts from a variety of disciplines resulted in a useful reference for any professional involved in wound care.
Features: Research as well as practical advice is integrated throughout. Superb color plates show the healing stages in a variety of types of wounds. Assessment tools enable practitioners to record and monitor wounds over time. The subsequent chapters guide practitioners in managing wounds and physiologic variables, such as edema, that impact wound healing.
Assessment: I highly recommend this book as a resource in every clinical setting involved in wound care. The index and clear headings facilitate easy access to information. It would also work well as a text in a course on wound management for health professionals.
