Almost as good as the first

If you haven't read the first Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, go read Lord Foul's Bane and discover what may be the most intelligent fantasy series ever written. If you've read the first series, and loved it, you will enjoy the Second Chronicles. Thomas Covenant returns to a sick and dying Land, this time with a doctor, Linden Avery. Donaldson's character of Avery is a fitting sequel to Covenant--she is as full of self-contradictions as the Unbeliever. But if you thought Covenant had it figured out by the end of The Power That Preserves, think again: Covenant's character provides still more room for Donaldson's brilliant development. And while Avery is an important aspect of the series, be not afraid: Covenant's role is not diminished. On the whole, a bit more wordy than the first Chronicles, but excellent.

I recommend reading the entire series of Thomas Covanent

This book was first read by me as a paperback many years ago.
I am reading the entire collection from the beginning in preparation for the final book which is now out.
During this re-read I chose to use my my Nook Color. I do not remember so many misspellings. I believe the tool used to copy from a book or a pdf copy converted many words incorrectly. This detracts from the read but doesn't change the harsh nature of the 2nd three books of this series.
As with the entire series - have a large dictionary available while reading.

The book itself is excellent, with a great take on the continuin

The book itself is excellent, with a great take on the continuing evolution of the character of Thomas Covenant. The only thing that I don't like is the editing of this edition. Some of the words are so badly misspelled that you have to determine what is meant by the context of the rest of the sentence. Just using a spell checker is not enough. Example: "him" sometimes appears as "nun". This should be fixed, to remove the speed bumps from the reading experience.

    I Also Recommend:

    The Wounded Land

This starts the second chronicles of Thomas Covenant. The first series was awesome. This book gave a slow start to the second. He added another character from this world and was really slow to start. Until about halfway through it and it took on the grace and story telling even the Giants would be captive to. Don't let the beginning get you down, it gets better, a lot better. And sets you up very well for the second book. I'm depressed that i am reading it so fast, I don't know if I'll be able to find another book to satisfy my high expectations...

A great read for lovers of the Covenant series

By far the best book of the second chronicles! The Wounded Land is a better opening to the second chronicles than Lord Foul's Bane was to the first. This book brought out emotion from my soul. I fell in love with the Land's beautiful sites and people in the first chronicles. In the begining of The Wounded Land, I was crushed to find out what Lord Foul had done to the Land after 4,000 years. Yet at the end of the story, Donaldson left me with hope that the Land would once again be a place of beauty. I highly recomend this book to all who enjoyed Thomas Covenant's ant-heroic attitude. Two words: READ IT!!!!
