WOW 2001

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
One of the most successful album series the music business has ever produced, the WOW franchise has sold nearly eight million copies since debuting in 1995. The concept is simple: Take the Christian genre's 30 biggest hits of the previous year, regardless of musical style or record label, package them as a double CD, and watch the sales roll in. With that in mind, WOW 2001 is probably one of the better collections to own, because 2000 was such a watershed year for the genre. We had Michael W. Smith's anthemic "This Is Your Time," and we were introduced to the awesome talents of teen stars Rachael Lampa and Stacie Orrico. Hard-core alterna-punksters P.O.D. made a huge ...

Hard-core alterna-punksters P.O.D. made a huge splash, as did the highly polished pop of Plus One. Packaging all this diverse music in one place can't have been easy; WOW producers had the good sense to package the Top 40 and adult contemporary together on what's called the Silver CD; the Blue CD features more hard-edged rock, alternative, and urban. All we can say to that is: Wow!
All Music Guide - Steve Huey
WOW 2001 keeps the Christian-music compilation series going strong with two discs of the genre's best singles from around 1999 to 2000. Veterans and established stars like Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jaci Velazquez, Jennifer Knapp, dc Talk, Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline, and Jars of Clay sit next to some of 2000's most talented newcomers. Not quite every song here is a keeper, but there's enough top-drawer music for that not to matter all that much, since there are so many favorites collected in one place.
