Overview

This highly successful series has been credited with taking Christian/gospel music to new audiences, and sales would indicate that the two-CD WOW compilations appeal to a lot of folks who may not normally buy Christian music. But Christian music fans love WOW too; largely a preview of singles forthcoming from the major labels, it's a nice peak into the future of the genre. With this issue, we've got a delightful look at Third Day's Come Together, from which the excellent "40 Days" is culled. Likewise, Audio Adrenaline's "Beautiful," from Lift, is aggressive, energetic and definitely portends another hit. On the pop side of things, Steven Curtis Chapman's "This Day" and Caedmon's Call's "We Delight" show the genre shifting into a more acoustic, singer-songwriter mode. WOW's strongest selling point is its ability to include virtually every major name in the industry, thanks to an unprecedented level of cooperation from labels which are normally fierce competitors. Still, listeners would do well to remember that WOW is far from comprehensive, and stellar releases from Out of the Grey, Sarah Groves, P.O.D. and Skillet are notable for their absence.

This highly successful series has been credited with taking Christian/gospel music to new audiences. A perpetual hot seller, it does seem that the two-CD WOW compilations appeal to a lot of folks who may not normally buy Christian music, considering the bang you get for your buck. But devoted Christian music fans love WOW too; largely a preview of singles forthcoming from Christian music's major labels, it's a nice peak into the future of the genre. With this edition, we've got a delightful look at Third Day's release Come Together, from which the excellent "40 Days" is culled. Excellent. Great songs, as always. I'd recommend this to anyone.
