Purpose: The purpose is to offer strategies to formulate a "WOW!" resume to get an interview and eventually a job offer. The author's objectives are met.
Audience: The book is written for health professionals from lab technicians to hospital administrators. It book is well designed for professionals in hospital settings or settings associated with hospitals. The author has written and contributed to numerous books about careers and personal finance.
Features: The author begins with a definition of a resume — what it is and what it is not. There is a discussion of presentation and how to make the best impression. There is a chapter about cover letters — what to include or omit — and helpful checklists to prevent omissions or errors. An alphabetical listing of resumes for each health professional is an overview of how to organize experiences and education. There are also examples of cover letters and how to develop letters for specific professional positions. The author stresses the importance of evaluating and highlighting what one does well.
Assessment: Thiss book is useful for all health professionals, but especially those in nursing. Of the 68 resumes offered, 21 are written for registered nurses in various settings. Other authors are more general when writing resumes, leaving professionals in specific fields the task of individualizing a resume. Having specific examples helps make a presentation that sets the applicant apart.
