Overview

This is the definitive compilation of gritty rock & roll featuring contributions from some of WWF's old-school most celebrated wrestlers of the '80s. The Wrestling Album includes humorous spots from Captain Lou Albano, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Jim Steinman, Mean Jean Okerlund, Hulk Hogan, and everyone's favorite wrestler-turned-distinguished political figure, Jesse Ventura. The general mood of this record naturally reflects boisterous guitar rock, comically satisfying and oddly peculiar. When things couldn't get anymore bizarre, don't overlook "Cara Mia" from Mikolai Volkoff or "Grab Them Cakes" from the late Junk Yard Dog.

...I recommend this album, recorded in 1985 during the sport's glory days and reproduced in 1998 for the listening pleasure of old school wrestling fans everywhere. Just as with more recent music compilations for the WWF--or, as it's called nowadays, WWE--this album has a very eclectic assortment of songs on it, from the Junk Yard Dog's quirky R&B single "Grab Them Cakes" to "Mean" Gene Okerlund's rendition of "Tutti Frutti" to Hillbilly Jim's "Don't Go Messin' With A Country Boy." Fans of 1980s-style rock will appreciate Derringer performing their song "Real American," the official entrance theme of Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo, as much as they will the instrumental theme song of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan and the wacky "Eat Your Heart Out, Rick Springfield" by "The Mouth from the South" Jimmy Hart. I even liked Vince McMahon and Gene Okerlund's DJ-style commentary in between each song, although Jesse "The Body" Ventura's heel shtick got to be a little annoying at times. Even he couldn’t have ruined this album, though, and I still think fans of 1980s WWF will love taking this trip down Memory Lane. I know I sure did!
