Children's LiteratureThere are not many wrestling books at a lower reading level, but this book about wrestling is written for a young audience. The introductory chapters discuss and illustrate the ground rules, wrestling mats, who wrestles, rules, scoring, and equipment. The following chapters talk about playing the game, wrestling strategies, throws and escapes, and illegal moves. The final chapters deal with the referee, wrestling safety, coaching and training, and winning the match. There are special chapters on wrestling in Mexico and Japan, women's wrestling, Olympic wrestling, professional wrestling, and famous wrestlers. A timeline on what happened when and another on fun wrestling facts rounds out an interesting book. There is a quick reference guide to "Wrestling Words To Know," a "Where To Learn More" section, and an index. Due to the illustrated information in this book (and in others of the "For Fun!" series) some older kids would also find it interesting. 2006, Compass Point Books/Capstone Press, Ages 7 to 9.
