Overview

A combination of the most memorable and controversial moments in wrestling's history, this guidebook is an insightful and essential compendium of groundbreaking matches, angles, and interviews. Tackling such events as Hulkamania and the Montreal screwjob, the NWA and the nWo, this reference highlights the moments that thrilled. Whether it is Ric Flair regaining the NWA Championship from Harley Race at Starcade, the Freebirds turning heel on Kerry Von Erich, Mick Foley flying off of the cage at King of the Ring, Jake Roberts DDT-ing Ricky Steamboat on the concrete, Samoa Joe’s epic trilogy with CM Punk in Ring of Honor, or the premiere of Nitro, the events captured as these greatest hits will delight fans. Enthralling insider information—including comments from the wrestlers involved in these moments—and different historical perspectives create an authoritative look at the extravagance, exploits, tragedies, and triumphs of this sport of kings.

An excellent read for longtime wrestling fans, recent wrestling fans, and curious non-fans alike.

This is a great book. Rickard presents readers with thorough research, engaging stories, effective organization of material, and, of course, photographs. Longtime wrestling fans won't feel that material is dumbed down for mainstream consumption, but those not familiar with wrestling terminology and history get explanations without condescension or an "insider" attitude. Many of the stories told were before my time, but not seeing them as they happened didn't matter. The vivid details, coupled with just the right twist of humor, makes getting caught up in the "greatest moments" easy. Perhaps most importantly, Rickard does not judge his material. He presents it, gives the context of time and place, and leaves the reader to decide how to feel about the event.

If you want a wrestling book that contains accurate research and solid storytelling that doesn't bring to mind the ravings of a 12-year-old posting in the anonymity of an internet forum, this is the book for you. Two thumbs way up!

    World's Greatest Wrestling Book!

WOW! What an awesome stroll down memory lane. This book is awesome for wrestling fans of all ages. It not only covers some of the more memorable current angles, but delves deep into the greatest angles from AWA, NWA, GCW, Mid Atlantic Wrestling and the WWWF. Past greats such as the Gagne's and Brisco's are right in there with the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The greatest wrestling story lines are ALL in this book. I can't wait to read it again!

If you ever went to or watched wrestling with family or friends, you'll want to read this book. This is about the Historical Backbone of modern Professional Wrestling.

When I started to read this fantastic work, I was taken back to a time that I thought was lost. This book brings back many memories about my children's childhood and one thing that they always enjoyed doing together. That one thing was wrestling. Whether it be watching it or doing it as on the TV, they loved every aspect of the sport and still talk about it today. This is a walk down memory lane, for them and for me. This book will tickle the hearts of anyone who looked forward to either hearing Jimmie Snooka talk or watching Miss Elizabeth walk.
