Overview

Every year brings hundreds of new wristwatch designs, with aesthetic and mechanical changes and improvements, limited edition watches, and new producers keeping this field exciting for collectors. Following the success of last year’s book, this new annual features over 1,700 of the world’s most luxurious wristwatches and provides color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. With Wristwatch Annual, collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: The book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, casings, dial, band, and available variations of a particular model.

The elegant photography and layout will encourage people to peruse the year’s offerings watch-by-watch for aesthetic appeal as well. The range of styles, from classic to modern, reflects the inclusive nature of this book, which watch collectors the world over will find both a handy reference and required reading.

Dear Readers,

The best and brightest of what’s out there? That’s exactly what we feel we are bringing you in this new edition of Wristwatch Annual. Unlike other publications, this one is not ruled by marketing-driven decisions, and the editors choose what they feel to be brands offering the most interesting and high-quality mechanical watches. We hope that you once again enjoy our selection of ticking treasures.

New presentations for the current model year include a number of highly complicated pieces and tourbillons, with the trend seeming to swing back from the lower key year in 2002 that included fewer new complicated timepieces than in previous years. Also finding its way back into the currently quite understated watch industry is gold in all of its shining variations.

One recurring topic is that of the watches’ current U.S. retail prices. The prices we publish are correct at press time, but during the course of a year, economies go through many changes, and the price of a high-quality wristwatch will certainly reflect that. Due to certain companies’ policies, some prices are listed in euros and some in Swiss francs. In some very rare cases, prices for brand-new watches were not available at press time. We also ask that you please use our printed prices as a guide only for new timepieces. Your friendly neighborhood jeweler or watchmaker will certainly be more than happy to provide you with current pricing should you wish it.

We wish you many insightful and enjoyable hours with Wristwatch Annual 2004.
