Overview

The definitive book for the collector of mechanical wristwatches with complete information, including prices, on over 1,700 models made by more than 100 international brands.

Every year brings hundreds of new wristwatch designs, with aesthetic and mechanical changes and improvements, limited edition watches, and new producers, keeping this field exciting for collectors. Following the success of last year’s book, the new annual features over 1,700 of the world’s most luxurious wristwatches and provides color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. With Wristwatch Annual, collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: the book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, case, dial, band, and available variations of a particular model. A glossary and pronunciation guide help acclimate the reader to the world of fine timepieces, and, for prospective buyers, the addresses of all featured producers are listed together.

The elegant photography and layout will encourage people to peruse the year’s offerings for aesthetic appeal as well. The range of styles, from classic to modern, reflects the inclusive nature of this book, which watch collectors around the world will find both a handy reference and required reading.

Letter to Readers

Dear Readers,

We have entered an exciting time in the modern era of mechanical watchmaking, a fact that we probably don’t need to tell you.

Creativity abounds not only in a technical sense, but also in the array of materials that manufacturers are choosing—both inside and outside of the watches.

New alloys and materials such as palladium, ruthenium, valium, ultimum, and even bronze only scratch the surface. Beyond that, we can now find silicon, zenithium, synthetic diamond, and even 18–karat gold to name just a few components lurking inside the movements.

It’s hard to say at this time where this progression of invention will end up. One thing, however, is certain: As of right now, these types of innovations aren’t really changing the rate of the watch. What they do change is what the technical nature might eventually hold as well as the rarity and beauty of the current timepieces available to the collector looking for something completely different.

And there has never been a better time to obtain a unique watch. On the following 432 pages, we are just dying to show you some of the amazing things introduced within the last horological year.

Another segment of the industry has begun rolling out very interesting mechanical timepieces due to the growing interest in what the watch aficionado might want to wear on her wrist. Brands like Zenith, Girard–Perregaux, Jaeger–LeCoultre, JeanRichard, Maurice Lacroix, Glashütte Original, and Patek Philippe have led the way, but the rest of the pack is definitely hurrying to catch up in this arena. Be sure to check out our new section introducing some of the mechanical femme fatales on the horological scene on page 99.

We wish you a wonderful time perusing these pages, and hopefully the ticks and rocks will be as audible to you as they are to us.
