Write about It!: Tools for Developing Writers / Edition 1by Melinda Roth Sayavedra, Joyce Bryan, Joyce Bryan
Pub. Date: 12/28/1999
Publisher: University of Michigan Press
Write about It! is an interactive writing text that guides lower-level writers through the process of writing a short research paper and provides them with tools they can use to become more proficient writing in English. The deliberately bold topics encourage students to think critically about timely issues and reach beyond their current language level in order to express their own ideas.
So that the beginning writer can jump right into prewriting activities, the text opens with topics about which most students have some knowledge. Later units require the introduction of basic research skills where students are asked to locate outside sources and synthesize the information they find.
Write about It! offers many unique features to low-intermediate ESL students and their teachers. Each chapter includes: self-evaluations for students; peer feedback activities; teacher feedback forms; and ideas for journal assignments, electronic conferencing, and extending the lesson. The text also includes organizing strategies, samples of authentic writing, and guidelines for starting a paper and revising drafts. In addition, Write about It! contains numerous activities designed to help students become more comfortable with process writing.
Write about It! can serve as a companion text to Talk about It! or as a core text for a writing course.
