I heard this was a fantastic book. I bought it for my Nook, but I was never able to read it. The file is corrupt. I contacted tech support and they walked me through several options. Unfortunately, none of them worked. I had to go to my nearest B&N to have the book removed by their tech support and get a refund. The whole process took a couple of hours, and the refund took a few days. I'd still like to buy this book for my Nook rather than buy a hard copy, but until I know it's readable, I'll stay away.

I am far from a complete writer, but the books in the "Write Great Fiction" series have been wonderful aids. But where some in the series are good, the ones by Bell are terrific. His book on Plot & Structure is fine reading, and I think this book on Revision and Self-editing is even better. As usual, he presents his thoughts/ideas in a coherent, straight forward manner and gives us plenty of examples to see exactly what he means. I really like how he uses writers from every genre (and many time periods) to help illustrate his points. Bell really shows that well written works come from every field and we can learn from all of them. Good writing is good writing. Recommended for any writer- from novice to pro. And for everyone from the self-published to those who work through the big publishing houses.

Excellent book BUT!!!!!! If you buy the Nook version it is in PDB format -- NOT epub. It will NOT open on the Nook classic, Nook app for Mac, Nook Study for Mac, or Nook app for iPhone. B&N -- Please FIX this!!!!!!!

Even though I've written over 30 books, I'm always reading a book on craft. An author can never stop learning how to do it better. REVISION AND SELF-EDITING by James Scott Bell is a must-have for every serious writer's shelf. The thing so lacking in many writing books is the practical advice on HOW-TO. Bell takes all the guesswork out and lays out the structure of a novel and how to get there. And then how to make that stinky first draft better. This book is the best book on writing I've ever laid hands on. It's even better than his PLOT AND STRUCTURE which I've been recommending to others. Get this book. Your story will thank you.

I'm always looking for great craft books for my 'library' to keep honing my skill and working on my craft. This book is definitely a keeper. While it gives a 'refresher' on some writing basic concepts and pointers to go deeper into your story and characters, the revision section is a must for all writers prior to submission (or fulfilling deadline). Infused with Bell's humor, the suggestions given are extremely helpful for not only the new writer, but for the seasoned writer as well. The pages contain real, HELPFUL information to help every writer on their career path. This book has earned a space on my reference book shelf.
