Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Della A. Yannuzzi
Author Rosinsky has written a ten chapter step-by-step book about how to write your own life story. Clear and precise chapters describe how to get started, setting the scenes of your life through the use of characters, viewpoint, plots, speech, and much more. There are also numerous interesting sidebars and case studies in each chapter. For example, author Gary Paulsen organized his biography according to dogs important in his life. He called it My Life in Dog Years. Skating champion Brian Boitano chose to tell his story in first person while using a third person viewpoint to tell the history, rules, and techniques of figure skating. Chapter one outlines the basics needed to begin an autobiography. One is finding a writing place where you can work on your life story. Another is setting aside regular time in practicing writing skills. Another important writing skill is finding a writing voice by reading other authors and studying how they use language. There is also information about how to create a time line of certain events, places, and people. Back material includes a glossary, further information, Internet sites, and a bibliography. Color photographs are included. Reviewer: Della A. Yannuzzi
