Overview

Writing lessons from the crown prince of suspense

For more than five decades, Lawrence Block has written novels. He has produced hard-boiled detective stories, taut suspense thrillers, literature, and erotica, and has succeeded in all these genres because he knows how to grab a reader with an opening line, and how to tighten that grip until the final sentence.

In Writing the Novel: From Plot to Print, Block offers neither tricks nor formulas, but straight-forward advice based on the experience that comes with producing more than one hundred books. He explains how to refine an idea, how to study one’s chosen genre, and how to use the novel’s expansive form to find one’s particular voice. And he tells it all in the easy, immediate style that has made his own work so successful.

This ebook features an illustrated biography of Lawrence Block, including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from his personal collection, and a new afterword written by the author.

Covers every step of the novel writing process to help writers deliver a salable manuscript to the right editor's desk.

OUTDATED!!! Don't be a fool and buy this book unless you are a man living in 1979!

The type writer should have been my 1st and only needed clue. However, I thought it was just a writing symbol. Stupid on my part! As soon as I started reading I knew something was extremely wrong. Unless you are a man living in 1979 don't waste your money on this out dated relic!!! This is the only time I wish I could get my money back on a Nook book!

    That's the stuff!

Please, go and buy this book! It is for an ambitious wanna-be writer as good as can be! Not only does Lawrence Block show multiple ways on getting your own novel done - it's also a good thing that he gives examples and pictures of his own writing career with all its trickiness and false trails - but he also encourages you not to lose patience and to do the best you can with what you have. I think he is one of the few who just admit that there is not only one formula for getting it done, but there are definitely a thousand possible paths to find the one that fits YOU. Just figure it out, folks!
