Overview

Published to critical acclaim in 1993, this new edition of The Wrongs of Tort takes account of many new developments in tort, without losing any of the spirit or vigor of the original text. The Wrongs of Tort challenges the widespread assumption in law education that tort is "objective", "apolitical" and "neutral" and reveals it to be imbued with politics. The authors argue that the system of tort is arbitrary rather than value-free, and that its underlying ideology is callous. The book is controversial and provides law students, lawyers and others with powerful arguments to challenge the prevailing orthodoxy.

This second edition has been substantially rewritten to take account of the ever-expanding case law and recent political developments. The chapter on accident compensation has been radically reworked to include further material and recent political developments in this area. The material on nuisance has been updated to take account of new decisions in the House of Lords. The chapter on feminist perspectives has been enlarged to take account of new developments and decisions in the higher courts. There is an enlarged bibliography covering new writings and significant scholarship and recent feminist engagements on tort.
