Overview

Legendary lawman Wyatt Earp has been the subject of numerous books and movies, most of which dramatically distort his exploits as a Wild West gunslinger. Wyatt Earp Speaks! tells this American icon’s story from the point of view of the man who knows best what really happened: Wyatt Earp.

In this unique volume, editor John Richard Stephens culls Earp’s writings, court testimony, and newspaper interviews to create an indelible portrait of the man who entered history with guns blazing in 1881 at the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. As he writes in his introduction, “Over the years so much has been made up about what happened [at the O.K. Corral] that the truth is now deeply buried under a pile of distortions, faulty inferences, embellishments, and outright lies.” By sticking to the words of Earp himself, as well as those who knew him personally—including Doc Holliday, Bat Masterson, and other frontier folk heroes—Stephens aims to set the record straight.

This book delves into all aspects of Earp’s history, including his long life after Tombstone and the famous Vendetta Ride of 1882 in which he nearly became an outlaw himself. Lavishly illustrated with photographs, drawings, and maps—and featuring materials that haven’t been seen in print in more than one hundred years—Wyatt Earp Speaks! separates the myth from the man to reveal the real Wyatt Earp.

If you are looking for sensation, thrills, gritty law enforc

If you are looking for sensation, thrills, gritty law enforcement, DON'T read this.
You would be very hard pressed to find more facts. When it comes to the old west and how facts were handled Hollywood has pretty much ruined it. There isn't a lot of "dramtic license" here.
So it depends on how you view it; if you like to read about actual accounts in details, this really works. If you sort of want some facts and want to be rushed along by thrilling story telling, this probably isn't going to be your favorite read.
What you do get is a undisputable reference guide and a tremendous history lesson rooted in wonderful research. Everything is here. You wouldn't have to go someplace else to find detail.
It is however a fact, when talking about American Western history, the embellished legends do read with more thrills then the accounts of the real events.
