Down right enthralling!

Ryel Mirai is taught the Art behind the gates of Markul by his kinsman, Edris. A vile sorcerer, Dagar, captures Edris and holds him in the Void. A prophecy waits to be fulfilled and Ryel begins a mystical journey, searching for Srin Yan Tai, who would tell him all he needed to know. .......... Ryel's journey takes him to many places that overflow with danger, witchcraft, and treason. The fate of the World is in his young wysard hands. ........ ***** This story will hold its readers to their seats tighter than Super Glue! I could not stop reading and I turned the pages eagerly in my quest to see what would happen next. Author Carolyn Kephart has created a realm with a cast of amazing characters that will enchant even the most reluctant reader. I can hardly wait to begin the sequel LORD BROTHER.

Great. Can't wait for Part 2

Although he detests his lessons and sees nothing gained by them, Ryel Mirai has spent much of his life in strict self-discipline studying inside Markul. However, Ryel's life changes when his mentor Edris suddenly dies at too young an age. Without Edris' guiding hand, Ryel searches for a new truth and soon learns his own real identity and who the enemy is that he has been trained to face.
Ryel leaves the protection of the walled city to confront Dagar, who resides on another plane. Dagar needs a human form and has selected Ryel's body as ideal. Abetting Dagar on his quest to conquer the world is Ryel's rival Michael. As Ryel seeks to thwart his foe, he learns that the spell Dagar desires bring Edris back to life, but the danger may be greater than the benefit.
WYSARD is a great fantasy tale that works because the key players are fully developed and understood, and seem real even on a quest. The story line is well written, and filled with typical action and adventure inside a vividly described magical world. Carolyn Kephart shows she is a talent that sub-genre fans will enjoy although the wait for Part Two will prove more difficult than Joe Paterno's football season.
Harriet Klausner

    A great story, worth reading

Carolyn Kephart has gotten herself off to a very good start with her first novel, Wysard. While some new writers seem to miss the mark on their first time at publication, the extra attention she has taken to produce a quality story certainly seems to have paid off. The characters in Wysard are real, three dimensional people with all the wants, fears, desires, likes and dislikes that we all have ourselves, with pasts that drive them and futures they aspire to. Her use of imagery was particularly effective as it gave the story a backdrop that was both believable and consistant with the tone of the work. I also was impressed at the use of magic in this story, which is less contrived and more believable in its mechanations. The journey of self-discovery in a world where things are not as they seem is deep at the heart of the message of the story. Wysard is one of the few books I've read in a long time that I didn't *want* to put down, and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
