The Bone-chilling Seqel to Tokyo Babylon.

This is the best Manga that Clamp has made. This Bone-chilling seqel to Tokyo Babylon will make you keep guessing who's going to live or die, who's on who side, and is everything going to turn up alright?

Absolutely the best manga series I have ever read.

I could go on for hours with this review, but I shall make it quick-I have read hundreds of mangas [not series, maybe only 30 or so of those], and X 1999 is by far the best thing I have ever read. I'm also a complete fanatic...have the whole TV series and the OAV and movie in Japanese and all, but that's beyond the point. This is Clamp's best work to date, and I believe it always will be. They managed to create an extraordinary occult-fantasy plot centering around the apocolypse that is quite unique [although the 'friends' turned enemies was a little cliched] that promises 22 volumes or more. Every single character is real and loveable [okay, okay, so I really hate Hinoto, but that's it!], and as the series advances you'll find yourself relating to at least one of them. The relationships amoungst the characters are also very deep and surprisingly complex. Unlike most manga series, there is no one character who everyone seems to love [except maybe Kamui, who has three guys hitting on him every time he turns around ^_~], nor does everyone even have a love interest [in fact, not even half of them do]. They are also very realistic, as is shown in later volumes when Aoki takes on the father-role for Yuzuriha, Subaru acts as if Kamui is his younger brother, Karen shows Nataku what it's like to have a mother-figure, etc...Clamp just amazed me again and again with this series. It sucks you in and ensnares you pretty much, and you'll end up sending Viz Communications nasty letters telling them to translate the mangas faster, then cry your eyes out and fall into a depression when Clamp finally hands over the ending, which you know from page 5 of volume one is going to be sick and miserating. The whole series centers around the angst of the main character, which one would expect to get annoying, but X manages to get around that and carry on a good, long series based upon emotions WITHOUT too much sappiness and melodrama. Warnings-X is violent, bloody, and downright gory in some places. It also gets disturbing [just read it-you'll see what I mean], and there are very strong shounen-ai implications [sadistic ones too]. In other words, guy/guy relations, one of which results in a half-rape much later on. But this is Clamp, and when have they ever NOT had a few gay guys in their works? ^_^;; This is a very confusing manga to jump into if you know nothing about it, so I do suggest you do some research online before you read it. You'll also want to hunt Kamui down and steal him for yourself. I'm warning you right now, he is MINE!

    X RULES MY WORLD!!!!

I think X rules. Clamp has done a wonderfull job of mixing love, action, and the duty to protect the ones you love from evil. They have mixed seriousness and humor to make this book intresting, and wanting your to read more, and more.

    A chillingly beautiful manga

CLAMP proves itself as Japan's top manga artist once again by this chillingly beautiful manga 'X', an apocalyptic thriller centering itself around a enigmatic young teenage boy, Kamui Shirou, who returns to Tokyo upon his mother's dying wish to take his place as the decider of the world's fate. He has two choices - to lead the Dragons of Heaven, those who wish to protect, and the Dragons of Earth, those who wish to re-create. Caught up in the dramatic turn of events are his childhood best friends, Monou Fuuma, who turns out to be the other 'Kamui', the one who would fill the empty spot of whichever side that Kamui didn't choose, and also Monou Kotori, a beautiful, albeit sickly, young girl who gets caught in the crossfire of the battle between her elder brother and her beloved. Supporting characters are equally well-crafted, if not better, and although the story gives you plenty of action, a dark, intellectual tale of love, duty and honor is woven in, admist the stunning backdrop of mordern-day Tokyo, as the Dragons of Heaven and Earth, people of all kinds, assemble in the greatest city in the world to battle for the path the earth was to take. Every X mnga is equally highly-recommended.

    An absolutely beautiful story...

Kamui Shiro is a very moody young man who returns to Tokyo upon the last wish of his mother, 'Go to Tokyo to find your destiny.' He is determined to protect his childhood friends, Kotori and Fuma, from the darkness that surrounds him and that will soon engulf the world. Meanwhile, dreamseers across the world are sensing the apocalyptical destiny that will arrive on the chosen day in 1999. Two occult forces will determine the fate of humanity, and Kamui can tilt the balance. Will he be our Savior or our Destroyer? As the lines between light and dark, good and evil begin to blur, Kamui is forced to choose between preservation and total annihilation. X is a supernatural-horror story with beautiful art, highly exciting plot, undoubtable morality, and bone-chilling gothic terror. It is a must see for manga fans and newbies alike!!
