Do you want to understand how to access and analyze data from the Microsoft XBOX console? If you do, then this book is for you! Author Steven Bolt, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that is a complete investigative guide for the Microsoft XBOX 360 game console. Bolt, begins by discussing the video game console market; as well as, the distribution of the Microsoft XBOX 360. In addition, the authors present and classify network systems on the basis of the OSI reference model, and describe the general architectural structure of network systems. They then discuss the various retail packages that have been and are currently available for the XBOX 360 gaming console. The authors then, introduce the concept of the XBOX Live portal and its associated user-interaction capabilities. They continue by discussing several initial steps that must be taken by the end user of the XBOX 360 console in order for the console to be functional and to connect to the XBOX Live service. In addition, the authors introduce the custom compressed files that can be located on the XBOX 360 storage media. They then discuss the changes that are made to the data that is stored on the storage media, once a system update is accepted and executed. The authors then show you the contents of the drive in a pre-system update configuration; as well as, a post-system update configuration. Then, they discuss the process of the XBOX Live account code entry; as well as, the steps that are necessary to connect to the Facebook portal that is available. The authors continue by addressing the issues and changes that are made to a drive when the console connects to XBOX Live service for online game play. Finally, they explore other areas, such as associated files for online game play, decompiling XEX files, network traffic analysis, online investigative capture boxes, and some of the tools that are on the horizon that can be utilized by the community for examination and online investigations. The goal of this most excellent book, is to show you the main differences in deciphering information from an XBOX rather than a PC. Perhaps more importantly, this book will show you how to use traditional and non-traditional tools in your investigations.
