This is another in the new O'Reilly series of cute, quickie books on a popular piece of consumer electronics. Painted in a vivid green, the book is meant to grab the limited attention span of a potential reader. If you think I'm paying overdue notice to the cover, you're wrong. Just as the Xbox was carefully designed to attract a mass audience, so too is the book. As for the interior, each pair of facing pages often has colour figures, usually taken from a popular Xbox game. To help keep you focused on the material, if you play that game. You can also get some idea of what other games are available. Cross-selling. Also, the small form factor of the book lends itself to short, snappy explanations. Like I said earlier, limited attention span of a twitch gamer. The author may have chosen a pragmatic way to attract them. The Xbox description really does show a very specialised usage. While a given application [game] may be highly complex, there is not that much else do-able in an Xbox, compared to a general purpose computer
