If I could go back in time and rewrite Dragonlance, it would be this book...only with more dragons in it. --Tracy Hickman

I can say without any shame or bias, that this is one of the best books ever written and should be in every hotel room next to the bible. --Curtis Hickman

Possessed by the spirits of Da Vinci, Van Gogh, and Jack Fred, I illustrated a book that you should buy two of...one to read and one to hang on your wall.--Howard Tayler

The wit of this book may be lost on readers who didn't live the history of RPGs, much less those who don't know it. But for those of us who were there, who saw the best and the worst, and saw Darwin's Law fail time and again in the market and in the games themselves, this is not only a riot - but a chance to put some lif ein your games!

This is a good book for new and old hand DMs alike. I found the information helpful and insightful... ONCE I GOT TO IT. A large portion of the book is the author trying to be comical with his XDM concept... Its 200+ pages of bad self referencing comedy that falls utterly flat. That is not to say you should not buy this book, just book, just be sure to write down or mark the pages that contain the actual meat and potatoes information on DMing and skip the 14 year olds sense of humor sections that eat up more then the 1st 1/3rd of the book.

XDM is an invaluable addition to any dms bookshelf. The sections on storytelling and the use of descriptions in combat will definetly benefit all dms. The book also covers things like player nature and mindset as well as ways players can better roleplay their charactes. A few sections I found tedious were the glitz and glam portions like contact juggling pyrotech and dice tricks other than its a great buy.
