No one will accuse Mushroomhead of not having an intriguing image; on stage, most of their members wear black masks that look like a cross between S&M/bondage masks and World War I-style gas masks. The exception is the member who wears Kiss-like clown makeup instead. Mushroomhead's unusual look is definitely an attention-getter, but having an interesting image wouldn't mean much if the Cleveland band didn't have some worthwhile music to go with it. The exception is the member who wears Kiss-like clown makeup instead. Mushroomhead's unusual look is definitely an attention-getter, but having an interesting image wouldn't mean much if the Cleveland band didn't have some worthwhile music to go with it. Thankfully, Mushroomhead's music is as creative as their image; XX, in fact, is among the most ambitious alternative metal releases of 2001. Far from generic, this CD successfully fuses alt-metal with everything from hip-hop, punk, and goth rock to industrial and techno. Plenty of headbangers have jumped on the rap-metal bandwagon, but how many metal bands that incorporate a lot of rapping also incorporate goth, industrial, and techno elements? At times, XX almost sounds like Rage Against the Machine meets Ministry by way of Bauhaus -- with some techno
ave exuberance added to the mix. That isn't exactly the most conventional mixture in the world, and the nice thing is that Mushroomhead's experimentation always sounds organic rather than forced or unnatural. Anyone who is seeking something fresh and risk-taking from alternative metal should make a point of hearing this superb CD.

    Mushroomhead vs. Slipknot

controversy has it saying, that slipknot copyed mushroomhead, if u are a huge underground fan of slipknot, u know that they came around in 1992 under the name Painface, w/ masks and all. Mushroomhead came out around the same time, so that ends that. Great album, lots of unique tracks w/ great vocals and sound

    Mushroomhead...

is a good band, with lots of talent, originality, but i'm gonna touch a subject no one wants to here.... they are similar to slipknot and Korn... but no one copied anyone, they just got the same ideas as each other, but i must say, one of their lead singers IS copying John Davis of Korn w/ his vocals, HIGHLY RECOMENDDED to slipknot fans

A new twist in metal music

This cd is a combination of several different types of music. They have the guitars that make it very metal. They have two good singers. One can sing very fast and scream. The other singers voice is more meodic and creepy. Then you have the industrial part with the samplier. In some songs it even gets classical thanks to the keyboardist. All these forces combine to form a new kind of music. Every song is different. You have songs that are straight metal others that are industrial. With the two vocalist singing interesting but mysterious lyrics you get one good band.

    mushroomhead

this is a great album but is pretty much a greatest hits to those who know mushroomhead. All of the songs on this album were taken off previous mushroomhead albums. To get them go to www.mushroomhead.org and go to the store. They have self-titled remake, superbuick original, remix remake as well as M3 a remake. Also don't forget they have a new album coming out on 10/14/03 which is promised to be a good one. The new single "sun doesnt't rise" is featured on the freddy vs. jason soundtrack.

    XX is the best!!

Mushroomhead's debut album ''XX'' is definitely a great way to enter the entertainment world. The music is dark, but it's got an awesome sound. If you enjoy listening to Slipknot or Coal Chamber even, you'll love Mushroomhead! Check it out...

    The Next Generation Pink Floyd

Mushroomhead is metal at it's best. XX is their first hit cd and is slowly moving up the charts to make them famous. The music is fast & intricate. It's adrenaline pumping. It's an album that really can't be described. You need to listen to it yourself to know what you really think about the album. All I can say is there is nothing else like it and you might not hear anything like it for a long time. To see them play this cd in a concert is a great experience. All I can say is that they are very theatrical with lights & their masks.

    Better than Slipknot

When I purchased the Mushroomhead XX Cd, I bought it for Solitare Unraveling, knowing that I saw the video and enjoyed the song. But I soon found out that the whole Cd was great. I am a huge Slipknot Fan, but I can honestly say Mushroomhead is more talented. From the keyboards to the 3 guitarists to the vocals. The sound of the music is quite erie but still sing alongable. In my opinion it is one of the best Cds of the metal industry and surely is an awsome debut Cd by Mushroomhead. I recommend this Cd to anybody who likes Metal. Sooner or later you'll love this album.

    5 Stars For XX

While XX may only be a Mushroomhead ''greatest hits'' album, with almost all of the tracks being dated back to their prior, independent releases (Mushroomhead, Superbuick, M3), without a doubt, it exemplefies a true musical masterpiece. As J Mann's screams and Jefferey Nothing's monotonous melodies lead you into a blistering black metal heaven, you can't help but be lost in the digital effects, put forth by Shmotz and Stitch. that Mushroomhead has become well known for. Almost a year ago, I picked up the Eclipse Records release of XX, and was amazed. Now that it's been released on Universal Records, anyone who wishes it has access to the album, and with that knowledge in hand, I strongly encourage ANYONE to go and give it a listen today.

I have been waiting for a long time for a new hard core sound to come out. this cd is awsome. it's got a hard sound that doesn't go flat in the middle.Like some other cds do.it's as hard in the end as it was whan it started. no comercial pansy music here. simply pure hard core joy

    The new face of metal

If I was to pic one metal album from the last 5 years to call my favorite, this would be it. The advanced metal sound that is mushroomhead can not be dicribed. It's intense and insightful lyrics are mached by layer apon layer of pulsating & pounding insturmentals. XX is an instant classic for any metal lover out there.

    Originality at it's best!

Mushroomhead: XX is originality at it's best, they have a uniqe blend of hard smashing riffs, bizaree sampling, and with Jeffrey Nothing and J Mann adding to opposite ends of the vocal spectrum and playing off of each other. This is a must have for any metal fan out there, song topics vary from inner turmoil to politics of everyday being, don't settle for a band that is just looking to get paid, try a band that actually uses their inrelligence and talent, if mushroomhead was runnin' for prez, i'd cast my vote.

    Mushroomhead's XX

mushroomhead is one of the best metal bands or atleast most original. they come at you with awesome keyboards/synths, heavy guitars, pounding drums, lots of awesome bass, great vocals (two vocalists might i add), and top it all off with freaky samples, it's like eight nightmares coming together, and scaring the piss out of you, but at the same time making you go insane. the album XX really shows you what the band is all about by bringing songs from past independent cd's, and putting them on one cd to show you the best they can be.
