Overview

A visual and written account of the final game played in Yankee Stadium, told from the perspective of a devoted fan and professional writer who eloquently delivers a fond final salute to the grandest of all stadiums. After an introductory essay about the author's lifelong relationship with the Stadium, this photo-essay tribute takes the reader from the pre-game activities in the surrounding neighborhood through many of the Stadium's key aspects—Memorial Park, the bleachers, the groundskeepers, batting practice and on to the game. While viewing the pre-game ceremonies and historic moments in the game itself, the reader pays one final visit to the food stands, familiar decades-old walkways and ramps, with a brief stop to savor the final setting of the sun behind the grandstands. Then it is on to the post-game celebration and sad final trek through the exits.

Editorial Reviews

USA Today Sports Weekly
"As a life-long New Yorker and Yankees fan, photographer Jeff Fox would have preferred the team found a way to play forever on the original Yankee Stadium ground. Fox's love affair has resulted in a picture book, Yankee Stadium: The Final Game - A Fan Says Good-bye.

What People are saying about this

Pete Sabatini
" . . . Jeff sought to . . . document the details the press never saw: the cold concrete ramps, the grinning beer vendors, the fans enjoying their home, and the view from the upper deck. . . . This is a portrayal of the Stadium as the fan's place of worship . . . What it will give you is the view from your view. How you saw the stadium and how you want to remember seeing that stadium . . . the purpose of this book is to 'bear witness to the last act of baseball at Yankee Stadium,' and it's a perspective that you won't easily find in print."--(Pete Sabatini, NY Yankees Examiner, Examiner.com)
Benjamin Kabak
"It's a beauty . . . truly is a fan saying good-bye . . . a nice addition to any Yankee fan's coffee table . . . the fans steal the show . . . with views from the stands and not the exclusivity of the pressbox, it is a great way to appreciate and see images from the final game at Yankee Stadium."--(Benjamin Kabak, RiverAveBlues.com)
Jim Reisler
"Fox, a lifelong Yankee fan, gives us page and page of spectacular photos of Yankee Stadium's last hurrah. This is baseball-and a photographic documentary of the final day at the grand old ballpark-from the fan's perspective. Fox's text is spare, but just right and displays his credentials as someone who understands and appreciates the rhythms of baseball. Spend enough time with this book and you'll be asking yourself, "So why are they tearing Yankee Stadium down again?"--(Jim Reisler, noted author of numerous baseball books)
Scott Pitoniak
"The thing I love about YANKEE STADIUM:The Final Game is that Jeff captures this emotional farewell from the perspective of the people who made The House That Ruth Built a ballpark unlike any other-the fans."--(Scott Pitoniak, noted sportswriter, author of "Memories of Yankee Stadium")
