Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
Sixteen-year-old Emily Marie William's life seems to swirl down the loo (toilet) when she moves from Seattle, Washington, to Piddlington-on-the-Weld, England: not only the dark side of the universe, but a country that still has discos! While sharp-witted and clever-tongued Emily feels slighted by the forced relocation, the situation provides mucho drama, drool-worthy love interests and ber-coolio comedy. Emily's frantic e-mails to best friend Dru portray her spiraling descent; further exacerbated by placement in the fifth form (with younger classmates; gack!), school uniforms, an "ancient" but overly protective father, a dim-witted but well-meaning mother, a sexually progressive older sister, a perverted underwear drawer poltergeist, snickerers Ann and Bee, and Tash, a promiscuous competitor in Emily's quest to win the heart of hunkalicious Aidan (that is, if she doesn't decide to go for dishy Devon, marry heartthrob actor Oded Fehr, or forget them all and go for Fang first). Gripping, smart-alecky, shocking (not for teacher's pets or the faint-hearted) and at the same time tender, Emily's trials and tribulations will inspire laughter, tears and an understanding of what it's like to be an American teenager in Britain. A brilliant debut by Katie Maxwell in the YA forum! KLIATT Codes: S*; Exceptional book, recommended for senior high school students. 2003, Dorchester Publishing, 221p.,

Still do!!

The storyline was okay, but does not compare in hilariosity with Louise Rennison's Georgia books. The real turn off was the huge amount of repeated words, crossed out sections, and incorrect capitalization. Is Emily daft? Did the author publish an unfinished work? Or did I just get a really crap copy?

It does not really matter to me that it was not a very realistic storyline. It was absolutely entertaining! The characters and the events were just so hilarious and entertaining. AND it actually addressed some issues I have have had problems with so I do think its a must read. Just have fun with it. Also, the love part of the series is just too easy to get caught up in.

When I first picked up this book I thought it was just going to be some stupid teenaged-girl 'I can't believe he dumped me' waste of time...Luckily I was wrong! This has got to be one of the funniest books I've ever read. I'm glad I bought this book, because it made high school a little easier to laugh at.

this book was just okay. the whole book is written in emails, so it is very different than any other book i have read. i was very dissapointed because i heard that this book was very well written. the whole book was just EMAILS! you didn't get the same effect finding out about something that happened through an email than when you are reading it when it is actually happening.

This is such a good book! I mean it's funny, sad, happy, and everything that a Young Adult(girl) wants to read!Well...it's kinda gross about the get-in-touch-with-yourself thing.I showed it to my friends and they just started laughing! But the rest of it is JUST EXCELLENT!

i cant say it was that great, but it was pretty good. Too much drama for 16-year-old girl...kinda pathetic. Emily is very naive and i would give her 13, not 16...But other than that book was interesting.

I thought this book had a lot of good things, and also a lot of bad things. First of all, I didn't really like that it was written in e-mails. I think it would be a LOT better if it was written like a diary. I also didn't like that Emily was so STUPID! That guy was completely molesting her when they were dancing and she was like,' Oh, this feels wrong but I guess it's what he wants' or something, and then she loved him a second later again. That was rediculous and unrealistic, it made me really mad. There were a lot of unrealistic things. Something I did like, though, was that it was written with a lot of good humor and was pretty entertaining. It was by far not the best book I read and not too memorable either, but it was cute and entertaining while I read it, I guess.

This is an excellant book. At parts, I found my self thinking 'Clueless and self-centered.' But, who isn't? Also, this is a hilarious book. WARNING: only read this book if you have a few hours to spare, because you won't put it down.

I liked the book overall. Her parents cracked me up time and again but she was clueless at parts I didn't think an average person should be. But then again she's not the average person is she? I recommend it to anyone who likes the e-mail format of the book. Some don't care for it.

I'm not really a girly girl or anything, I'm more of a tomboy... (Which drives my Mom nuts.) So she picked up this book, and last night I couldn't get to sleep so I decided I would read it. I couldn't put it down. It's extremely funny and I plan on buying 'They Wear What Under Their Kilts'

I would like to make one statement. I HATE readin, I hardly ever read. I read like 100 page books (I would take bout a week to finish, chapter a day.)and Every1 would be JOYED if I read 1 of those kinda books in a month. But a few days ago my mom bought this book and figured I would like it, cause it was all written as E-mails. So I couldn't sleep one night so I decided to read it and see what it was about. I sat in my bed reading it, and did NOT put it down, and it was 5:00 in the morning when I finished it. This book was sooooo HILARIOUS I almost feel out of my bed. I just loved this book sooo much, I cant wait til I get the other one. I am gonna read it right away and until then I am gonna read this book. AGAIN!!! Thanxz soooo much Katie!!! EVERY1 WHO COMES TO THIS SITE COME BUY THIS BOOK IT IS SOO WORTH IT!!! I got 3 of my friendz to buy it already. They just read the part of it and LOVE it!! and there is one guy who is 20 who thinks the same!

this book is definately not one of my favorites, but it does have its good parts! sometimes it got a little tired, but if i had a choice, i wouldnt re-read it. overall, it's a pretty typical teen book.
