Overview

The origin (prequel) story of Coheed and Cambria's epic series, known widely as "The Amory Wars."
Welcome to the worlds of Heaven's Fence, where a lattice of mysterious energy known as 'the Keywork' binds and sustains life on a triangular network of planets--from the bleak and hellish Howling Earth to the spare beauty of Bendelesh. Beneath the Keywork's glow, under the governance of the twelve grey-skinned Mages and the watchful gaze of the winged Prise, humanity goes about it's daily life unaffected by the goings-on of the higher powers at work in the universe. Until the day when the ambitious Wilhelm Ryan, newest member to the brotherhood of Mages, acts on his growing discontent at being branded another ordinary Mage, ruling over one lowly Sector. Shrewd and silver-tongued, Ryan launches the Mage Wars: a devastating campaign to win control of the entire Fence and take on the legendary mantle of Supreme Tri-Mage, a position likened to God himself.
Dr Leonard Hohenberger, the Fence's top scientist is summoned by the Prise to stop Ryan. His creations, Coheed and Cambria, are thus born and lead the battle to save Heaven's Fence. Will good or evil prevail?

Anyone who has followed the music of Coheed and Cambria must read this book! Finally you can see how the stage was set for the central story of their fisrt album. And even if you do not know the band it ks still a good read.

This novel was a fun and informative read. I have been a huge Coheed and Cambria fan for years. Besides the writing itself being a little choppy, it was throughly enjoyable. I would recommend as long as you know it's not truly amazing writing, reguarding the style.

Year of the Black Rainbow by Claudio Sanchez is an amazing Sci-Fi thriller.  It was impossible to put down.  Sanchez creates some vividly wonderful characters and locations, seemingly out of nother.  then, the characters create even more amazing characters completely out of nothing.  I loved the flow of this novel and the story line is beyond phenomenal.  I also like the (Book 1) in the listing because I will so enjoy reading more.

Thus book truly touches the roots of The Amory Wars comics. Any true Coheed and Cambria will enjoy reading the story of Wilhelm Ryan's quest to conquer and rule the Keywork and the planets within it. I won't say anything else other than read it and I promise you will enjoy it. It's not all about fictional characters, there is real life situations and emotions as well. Very worth the read...

I am, traditionally, not a very big fan of sci-fi, but I absolutely loved this book. It is definitely interesting to see the origin of characters that I have heard about for years, and it's well-written as well, which helps. The only problem was that, as soon as I finished the book I had to go back and listen to the corresponding album to try and match up the songs to events in the book. This lead, of course, to me having to listen to the entire CoCa discography for the umpteenth. I have ordered the graphic novels for both SSTB and IKSotSE as well, and I can't wait. Read this book, you will not be disappointed.

I love Coheed & Cambria, and I'm quite confident in saying that they are easily one of the best musical acts of our time. The mythos behind the music is equally amazing and entertaining. Unfortunately, this book demonstrates that artists aren't necessarily great across all mediums. This book reads at an elementary level, and contains quite a lot of extraneous background information that doesn't fit into the plot. Don't get me wrong: I purchased the book precisely to learn that background information, but that's only because I have such a keen interest in the music of Coheed & Cambria, and in the Amory Wars, the concept story behind all of C&C's lyrics. I would never recommend this book to someone who was not already interested in learning more about the universe of Heaven's Fence, as it is a poor representation of a well-written sci-fi/fantasy book. Unless you insist on having the purest vision of Claudio Sanchez's Year of the Black Rainbow, I would recommend supplementing your C&C knowledge with a good Wiki article. On the other hand, I am currently engrossed in the Amory Wars comics, and I recommend those highly to C&C fans and general comic fans alike.
