All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Friday's 2013 two-fer pairs Al Stewart's 1976 commercial breakthrough Year of the Cat with its grander 1975 predecessor, Modern Times. Appropriately, the two are sequenced chronologically, so the grander, arguably unwieldy Modern Times gives way to the sleeker, elegant Year of the Cat, and if it could be argued that 1978's Time Passages is a better sonic fit to Year of the Cat, there's no denying that these are two of Stewart's very best albums and it's a pleasure to have them available as a two-fer.
