The Year the Lights Came On, was one of the books my school put on our 10th grade required reading list. For being required, it was pretty OK. Out of all of my required reading, this was one of my favorites. The book started out fast, so it wasn't difficult to really get into. I'll admit there were times when the reading became a little slow but overall I would say the book was very good. It's a good view of what southern friendship is really like and how people can overcome their differnces.
