Overview

LINNEA

Eager to begin her first teaching position, lovely Linnea Brandonberg stepped off the train looking as grown up as her eighteen years would allow. The golden fields and fragrant wheat of Alamo, North Dakota, were as new and different as the Westgaard family with whom she would live.

TEDDY

Farm life in 1917 was hard and bitter--but tiny, spirited Linnea was determined to brave its challenges. And as World War I threatened to take those she held dear, Linnea grew to womanhood in the arms of Teddy Westgaard, a man who thought he would never find love.

YEARS

A story of passion. A story of heartache. A story of a way of life that will long be remembered--with people and places as real as the emotions of the heart.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In September 1917, 18-year-old Linnea Brandonberg steps off the train in Alamo, North Dakota, eager to begin her first teaching job. A town girl, she is not prepared for the dour reception of the Westgaard family, with whom she is boarding. But rather than let people and circumstances master her, she singlehandedly changes them, including Theodore Westgaard, a bitter widower of 35 who never thought he would fall in love again. Spencer has done a splendid job here in making this more than a story of two people enamored of each other. She describes the growth of Teddy and Linnea's love with sensitivity and refreshing candor and brings all the residents of Alamo to life in a way that makes the reader care about their satisfactions and heartaches. IT was a definate tear jerker at times but the way that Spencer describes two loves that are far apart in age is amazing. At first I thought it dragged and I wasnt convinced I'd like it until my mom made me read further and after that push I just couldn't put it down it was awesome! I definatly have to say this is my favorite yet and I wish it would be made into a movie!

Enjoyed reading this book.....however there was an annoying amount of typos and syntax errors. This probably due to printers, not the author.

I love that Spencer's characters seem so real, they are not perfect and it makes them much more interesting.

Not a trashy romance novel. It is a story about love, family, and healing. The characters are well done, and very "real."

This has to be the best LaVyrle Spencer book I have ever read. I cannot get enough of it. I have read it 5 times in a row. I finish it, then pick it up and read it again. The cast of characters is unbelievably awesome. The visuals are incredible. It sets the imagination on a fancy. I will probably read it again and again.

This is one my favorites by Lavyrle Spencer; characters you care about, an interesting setting and a touching storyline. This book made me laugh and cry. I also really like how most of her novels are set in Minnesota (this one is set in North Dakota) since I live there; it's fun to recognize locations and towns the author is referring to. Spencer is a master at romance; I've read all of her books and my favorites include: Twice Loved, Vows, November of the Heart, and That Camden Summer. If you enjoy this book, you might also like: Shades of Twilight and After the Night by Linda Howard. Tami Hoag also writes wonderful, suspenseful romantic mysteries; I especially like her older books.

Just finished reading this book for about the 7th time. My all time favorite book, though I really enjoy a few other Spencer books also...several of which are re-again books, in my opinion. I enjoy the way the characters are described, and always feel that I know them well by the time I'm done with her books. In 'Years', I can really feel the pain that Teddy and Linnea go through! I think this book would make an excellent movie.

I just read this book for the second time and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. I just love this book and would love a sequel.

This was my first book by this author. It was a truly wonderful story with unforgettable characters. There were passages that were so heartwrenching it was difficult to hold back the tears. Every emotion imaginable could be felt by the reader. I emitted a great sigh upon reading the last page, my heart was still in turmoil, confused as to whether or not I should be feeling a contented happiness or a grave sadness. I truly loved this book.

There are no other words: I loved this book. What a beautiful story. What wonderful people. It's with great sadness that the last page has been turned.

I honestly didn't think I'd read this book. I didn't think it would be very interesting, but I was SO wrong. It's one of the sweetest love stories out there, timeless in it's beauty and originality.

Wonderful book---but then, I love any book written by Ms. Spencer. This takes place in North Dakota, and it's so real, so convincing, so heart-string-tugging that you'll want to read it again (just like I have!!)

I have read and re-read LaVyrle Spencer's books over the years and never tire of them. This is one of my favorites, because it does not end at the wedding. I love her stories because the plots have depth, more than just boy meets girl and get married. I also, love that the intimacy between the couple isn't trashy.

I have a brand new Nook Tablet - got is as a gift for christmas. Tried to download a book this morning. Took me an hour to figure out it wasn't what I was doing wrong as the book just remained in download mode. I rebooted several times and finally I called 800 customer service. After waiting on the phone over and over again for 45 min, they told me they were having problem with the systems and they werent downloading right now - told me to call back in an hour or so - then let me go. It is almost 4pm now, and still no book. My bank account is debited of course! And I have my email confirmation....no book. I'm taking the BN Nook back and buying a Kindle Fire....I'll use the cost difference to buy some e books elsewhere!
