THE YELLOW WALLPAPER......A GREAT SHORT STORY. Ms. Gilmore crafted this tale in such a way that you feel as twisted as the narrator does. It's clear that mental illness plays a major role in the mindset of the narrator. But, there is a little shred of doubt (at least in my mind) that there might be some otherworldly component. It's hard to tell, because we are seeing things through her perceptions, which are clearly not rational.

This novel is written as the secret journal of a woman who, failing to relish the joys of marriage and motherhood, is sentenced to a country rest cure. Though she longs to write, her husband and doctor forbid it, prescribing instead complete passivity. In the involuntary confinement of her bedroom, the hero creates a reality of her own beyond the hypnotic pattern of the faded yellow wallpaper – a pattern that has come to symbolize her own imprisonment.

This is one of my absolute favorite short stories! I love following the narrator on her slow decline to insanity as she obsesses about the yellow wallpaper...

I had forgotten about this story, which I read many years ago and loved. It is a masterpiece of psychological horror. Will probably dream of yellow wallpaper and a creeping woman tonight! *shudder*

There are some really good stories about the descent into madness. This is one of them. A relly fun story that gets you to thepoint quickly. Not a long novel. A short story that packs a big punch.

I read this short story in Lit class in college this past semester. It was amazing! Will not spoil it for those who have not read it, but I am glad the wife found an escape, of sorts. Look onYouTube, there is a video of this as well but watch it after you have read the story!
