About the Author: Steven C. Tarr learned the power of yes-you yes-now leadership in both his executive roles and front-line jobs. He progressed to become a top executive in high technology companies and leading-edge health care institutions, first seeing the value of effective following early in his working life by cleaning offices, delivering newspapers, stocking grocery shelves, programming computers, and eventually leading large teams of people. In each case, he has been both a leader and a follower, learning to work with others to achieve team goals. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Washington State University and his doctorate from Portland State University. He enjoys volunteer coaching high school basketball and seeing the growth of people, young and old, as they persevere to achieve more than they thought possible.

This book is helpful and fun to read. It has about 48 short chapters, about 5 pages each. I didn't read them all in order. It's just fun to pick up the book, open it, and read a chapter. Each one starts with a quote, really good in most cases. Then it makes the point of the chapter, followed by a story. It's the story that makes the book so understandable and fun to read. Some of the stories are so good, I wanted to read more even though the point had been made. Also there is a section in the back about schoolchildren, both grade school and high school. They talk about their own leadership characterisics. Funny to read and I could see myself in some of them, kids are so honest.

The book is in sections, The Basics, Leading Yourself, Leading Your Team, and Leading Your Leader. It was interesting to see these sections because it is true that all need to be done.

I particularly like the contrast of stories. Some are examples from personal or professional life of the author and others are examples from famous people like Colin Powell or David Rockefeller. The mix makes it interesting. Good stories on sports and music too.

All of this makes the book one that I use a lot. Easy to read, fun to read, and good points that I can use at work and at home.
