Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5-8-Beginning with Ma's childhood, Chippendale moves chronologically through her subject's interesting life, allowing readers to watch him transform from an irresponsible yet talented young musician into a mature artist who promotes not only classical music, but jazz and international music as well. The author does a commendable job of presenting Ma in a professional light as well as a personal one, telling stories of his many tours and performances as well as of his minor blunders, such as forgetting his cello in a taxi cab. Young musicians will enjoy reading about his devotion as well as his sometimes lazy attitude toward playing. They will also appreciate his talent and desire to make classical music accessible to everyone. Average-quality black-and-white photos support the text.-Julie Webb, Shelby County High School, Shelbyville, KY Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
