Overview

Yoga has been shown to promote flexibility, deep relaxation, strength, balance, coordination, and a general sense of well being. But for many busy people, joining a yoga class may be an unrealistic goal. Illustrated with lively color photographs, YOGA IN BED—a concept developed by an overworked yoga instructor who had no time to practice on his own—offers gentle stretches and guided meditations that can fit into anyone's schedule. Author and teacher Edward Vilga's goal is to make the practice of yoga accessible and fun, and he's chosen and named poses, from “Breakfast Bend” to “Winding Down Twist,” that are within the range of most healthy individuals, and easy to do in the comfort and privacy of home.

This is a BRILLIANT book that shows that yoga can be accessible to all and -- amazingly -- convenient too! And it's a GREAT gift book -- it's fun not preachy. I'm relatively fit but wasn't thrilled at the idea of dragging myself to a yoga studio and watching 100-pound women twist themselves into pretzels in fancy yoga outfits, after toting their mats in in matching fancy bags. Then I learned: I don't have to! Edward Vilga cuts through the frou-frou and gives you the heart of yoga. Make no mistake: This book will get you in shape, and give you piece of mind. But it will do so in a way that works for those of us who like to do things like eat brunch, sleep late, and watch videos on Sundays -- not hike to the gym and climb a rock wall. Even if you spent an indulgent Sunday, feel good about yourself by ending it by following this awesome book!!!!

This book arrived early from my son in California, and I opened it without thinking. What a sweet Mother's Day gift! He knows I'm starting a yoga practice and looking for ways to balance my hectice schedule. This uplifting, beautifully-designed book has many helpful suggestions for actually doing yoga in bed - before I get up and as I'm winding down. And it makes the whole thing seem fun!
