If you are a parent or a teacher of children ages three to seven years old, I recommend that you pick up a copy of The Yoga Zoo Adventure: Animal Poses and Games for Little Kids. Helen Purperhart, the author, also wrote The Yoga Adventure for Children and Yoga Exercises for Teens. A student of yoga for over 15 years, Purperhart teaches children¿s and adult yoga classes as well as trains instructors on children¿s yoga in her hometown near Amsterdam, Holland. The Yoga Zoo Adventure takes little ones on a fun-filled imaginary visit to the zoo. The experiences they¿ll encounter during the day are acted out using movements based on yoga poses. Related stories and songs are interspersed throughout. Packed with a wealth of information, this book is also filled with guidelines for parents and teachers, yogic philosophies, endearing animal fables and amazing information about numerous creatures found in nature. The beauty of the Yoga Zoo Adventure is its versatility. All of the activities can be followed from beginning to end or individual exercises can be singled out and performed. When physical movement isn¿t desired, the fables can be read to and discussed with the children. Even when the kids have outgrown the games, they can still use the section describing all of the animals found at the zoo as a reference guide. The facts are fascinating. I was surprised to discover how much I learned after reading this material. This fun book not only introduces youngsters to the enjoyment of physical activity, but also stimulates their imaginations and educates them about life and nature as well.
