Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Riley (obstetrics, gynecology, & reproductive biology, Harvard Medical Sch.; medical director, labor & delivery, Massachusetts General Hosp., Boston) specializes in high-risk pregnancies. Her guide begins with the first clues that one might be pregnant and progresses week by week until the baby reaches three months. Major sections cover first, second, and third trimesters; labor and delivery; feeding your baby; and postpartum and baby care. The trimester sections are further broken down into weeks, with each week addressing baby, body, self, diet and exercise, and common questions. Important events, such as feeling the baby move for the first time, are also discussed. The book can be read chronologically, or specific topics can be found in the main index or the indexes that complete each section. Included are a "Pregnancy Organizer," complete with charts and checklists and full-color photos of fetal development. This easy-to-read guide is excellent for any library; highly recommended.-Jodith Janes, Cleveland Clinic Fdn. Lib. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Loved it, A must have for all expectant mothers

this book has so much useful information, from the color photos to the due date calculator. I loved how much information it gave you for each week. Some books only have one or two paragraphs per week, but this one has a whole chapter dedicated to every week. Its a great gift for first time mothers as well as those who already have kids.

    Best Pregnancy Book

I absolutely loved this pregnancy book. It was the best one I found. It normally had several pages for each week, which was better than most books. There were also color pages showing several stages of fetal development. There was also a large section on postpartum, as well as breastfeeding and formula feeding. I used this book for my first pregnancy and would recommend it to all mothers-to-be.

    Best Pregnancy Book I Found

I looked through several pregnancy books and was given several others. This was by far my favorite pregnancy book. Most every other book seemed intent on scaring the mother into following particular advice, eating certain foods or abstaining from activities. This book was more of an overall encouragement of good health and little bits of information about fetal development that I did not pick up from other sources. Another poster suggested that she preferred reading stuff online, but I find that there are more horror stories on the internet than need be. This was a comforting read. I read it week by week aloud to my husband and he enjoyed hearing the sections about fetal development and what the father may be thinking about or feeling. It was good dialogue starter since my husband really didn't know what he should be trying to talk to me about and didn't even know where to begin with asking questions about what was going on with my body. I absolutely love this book and give it as a pregnancy gift to friends and family.

I am not sure about this one.

I prefer the internet to be honest. I feel like I wasted my money. This book does have good information but I also find that it lacks a lot of fun information and has all the risks and problems that may occur instead. I am all about knowledge but I want to know all the wonderful things about pregnancy, not just the facts and the risks.

Great not just for 1st time moms

This is the best pregnancy book that's out there. It's great for 1st time moms, as well as those who already have a child. This book is extremely well planned out, with spaces to write down the questions you need to remember for your upcoming appointments, as well as a place to write the baby and mother's stats from each OB visit. It's easy and enjoyable to read and extremely up to date. My OB looked through the book at my 1st appointment and stated that she was very impressed with it and how up to date it was, much more than with some of the other popular books on expecting. It's got great pictures of the fetus in utero so you can see what your baby looks like at various points in gestation. I will buy this book again for my next pregnancy and recommend it to all my friends who are expecting.

Best book for knowing what is going on weekly!

This book is probably the best book to read for those first time moms 'or any mom for that matter.' It gives you weekly information 'rather than monthly' that matches exactly what you are going through and has some great visual photos and drawings. Not only do I love reading the current week that I am on, but my husband gets to experience it as well and have a better understanding of how the baby is progressing!

Excellent Choice for First time Moms

I am in the middle of my first pregnancy and this book was more helpful than any other. It breaks it all down in weeks which is so much better than months because each week can be different - a month is a long period of time in a pregnancy to generalize. This book breaks it up into sections within the week too - your baby and your self and a couple others varying on the week. We really enjoy this because it gives you objects to compare the size of your baby to so you feel like you know a little better what it looks like. And then it goes into detail as to what is developing that week - like eyelashes or that your baby is learning to use it's muscles. It then tells you what changes your body is going through and what symptoms you can expect or expect to go away. My husband and I each read the week I am in and don't allow each other to read ahead. It has turned into a wonderful weekly tradition in preparation for our first little one. In general this book covers all the bases. If you were buying one book, this is it. It even has some great chapters on baby's first weeks. Enjoy!!

A terrific book for expecting parents!

I have read many of the books out there, and this book offers some new and exciting changes. Week by week advice on interesting topics, a fantastic postpartum section (details for mom and baby) and glossy, color pictures. A must read for moms and dads. My husband has really enjoyed reading it too!
