Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
Through examples provided in this book, children will learn about actions that convey friendliness. The slick, soft cover shows an African American girl with a missing tooth and a girl of Asian background hugging. Friendliness is shown when you ask someone to play, share a snack, hug an older relative, or let others go first. An illustration shows a sad boy holding a picture of a cat while another boy puts an arm around him. A girl in a restaurant says "please" and "thank you" to the waiter. A boy in a snowsuit holds the door for his mother carrying a baby and many packages. A child on crutches is allowed to go ahead in the cafeteria line. The action-packed pictures show children of different ethnic backgrounds in familiar settings. The one sentence of text per two page spread is in capital letters. Children will begin to associate the words with the pictures. This is a fun read for parents and children. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
