Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The virtue in this book lies in its simplicity. It is a compilation of everyday positive actions, all designed to illustrate the meaning of the word “friendly.” For example, one page reads: “You are friendly when someone is sad and you give the person a hug.” The accompanying illustration shows a young boy crying and cradling a picture of a cat while another boy puts an arm around him in quiet sympathy. In just a few words and with a simple picture, Snow conveys a wealth of meaning about the depths of the concept of being friendly. By nature, emotions are multifaceted and difficult to define, but in this series Snow, with sparse words and few pages, shares with readers many different interpretations of common emotions. Recommended for purchase by public libraries, this sturdy book will hold up for many circulations and is sure to be appreciated by parents and children alike. Reviewer: Meagan Albright
