It's a vital message for children everywhere: that regardless of how the world evaluates them, God cherishes each of them, just as they are.

This tale originally appeared within one of the chapters in the award-winning children's bestseller Tell Me the Secrets.

Punchinello's opinion of himself changes after talking to his creator.

    This book is special!

The book called YOU ARE SPECIAL by Max Lucado is my childhood favorite. I loved this book, and still do. It is a heart warming book with a strong moral saying that it does not matter what people say or think about you, it only matters what you think. YOU ARE SPECIAL is a must-read for anyone of any age. It is a book that I will read to my children.

    The love that completes

I have used this as a counselor with children but also with those who struggle (all of us) with their identity..especially in God's eyes. Healing of the body, mind, soul, and spirit.

    Wonderful life long lesson

This book provides an excellent illustration of how God made us special and we should embrace our differences because He loves us just the way we are. It explains in a simple manner not to succumb to peer pressure or feel inadequate because you do not look or have abilities like someone else. I loved it so much that I bought a book for each of my girls because this is a life lesson they will need to be reminded of throughout their lives.

    Fantastic

I received this book as a baby gift for my 2nd child. When I first started reading it, I wasn't too sure about it, but, by the time I got to the end of the book, I was awe-struck. I have started giving this book to friends when they have babies. It's a great book!

    A Great Book

This book is great for kids and adults. We read it to our daughter often to remind her that she is made just the way God intended.

    Amazing message!

I performed this book as a one man play for my oral interpretation class in college. I cried when I first read it as I struggled at the time with my self-worth. God used this book to change my life and perspective about myself.

    God does think you're special!

When I first heard the story in this book I was so overwhelmed about the love that God has for me and how he thinks of me. Kids and adults are sure to enjoy the message Max conveys in this story.

I read this book over 5 years ago and apply it to my life every day! I have a step daughter who is at an age where she doesn't feel good about herself. I will read this book to her again and again! It has changed my life!

    Special Books

I used to read this book to my campers when I was a counselor at a Christian summer camp. The message is that our creator, God, loves us for who we are - he made us who we are. Whenever we feel inadequate in this world, all we need to do is remember God's love for us. When we do that all those negative things that people see about us and even those that we have started to believe ourselves will disappear. This story is included in Lucado's book, The Book of Secrets. This excerpt from that book is enhanced by Martinez's wonderful illustrations. Why 5 stars?: This book is wonderfully written and illustrated. The message is one that all children (and adults) need to remember. God is able to see past what others do. He looks not only at our surface, but what is inside. He made us the way we are for a reason and he loves us because we are all so different.

A sight for a sore heart

I am in a City College. A teacher came in and read this book to the entire class and I could not stop myself from crying because I could relate so much to the story. It helped me see my way through alot of lifes set backs. I will purchase this book today for my little three year old.

    You Are Special

Absolutely wonderful book. Great gift for a child. The first time I read it to my daughter I was actually choked up. It's basis is on being judged by others and the hurt that sometimes goes with it. They are puppets and the main character meets his 'maker' and the reference is to a 'God' telling the puppet what others think doesn't matter, only what the 'maker' thinks. Very sweet book.

    Wonderful book!

I bought this book for my boyfriend's two boys (6 and 8). The younger has expressed some feelings of being not good enough, and I thought this book might help. He's usually only interested in books about dinosaurs, and he's very specific about what he likes. After reading this book with each of the boys, we talked about what it meant and about how God loves us just as we are no matter what. I also stressed that their parents and I love then no matter what. Well, I thought it went okay, but the next time I went to read it (to weeks later) I was shocked that the younger one was really excited to read it again; like I said, very unusual for a book with 0 dinosaurs. The older one reads chapter books now, but he remembered the characters names and was also enthusiastic about reading it again. The younger one was even asking about the book a couple days later and wanted to read it again. It obviously made a huge impact on them both, and for that I'm extremely grateful. What a wonderful lesson for all of us.

    Another Lucado Classic

I buy Max Lucado books for my grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The Wimmicks series is truly classic. My only problem this time was that the book was printed upside down and I had to go in to pick up anoher one.

    Love this story in boardbook

This is one of my favorite stories about how much we mean individually to God. I wanted this book to share with my daughter, but didn't want it to be easily destroyed (she's 2). I was so happy when I found this in board book. It's not missing any of the text like sometimes has to be done when converting stories to board book for children. It's sturdy and we can both enjoy it!
