Overview

From an elite Special Operations physical trainer, an ingeniously simple, rapid-results, do-anywhere program for getting into amazing shape

For men and women of all athletic abilities!

As the demand for Special Operations military forces has grown over the last decade, elite trainer Mark Lauren has been at the front lines of preparing nearly one thousand soldiers, getting them lean and strong in record time. Now, for regular Joes and Janes, he shares the secret to his amazingly effective regimen—simple exercises that require nothing more than the resistance of your own bodyweight to help you reach the pinnacle of fitness and look better than ever before.

Armed with Mark Lauren’s motivation techniques, expert training, and nutrition advice, you’ll see rapid results by working out just thirty minutes a day, four times a week—whether in your living room, yard, garage, hotel room, or office. Lauren’s exercises build more metabolism-enhancing muscle than weightlifting, burn more fat than aerobics, and are safer than both, since bodyweight exercises develop balance and stability and therefore help prevent injuries. Choose your workout level—Basic, 1st Class, Master Class, and Chief Class—and get started, following the clear instructions for 125 exercises that work every muscle from your neck to your ankles. Forget about gym memberships, free weights, and infomercial contraptions. They are all poor substitutes for the world’s most advanced fitness machine, the one thing you are never without: your own body.

    Excellent workout book

I think I have read almost every fitness book and they all seem to be clones of each other - with some small variations here and there - written by all these so called "celebrity fitness gurus." Yes, some of these books add some "twists" to standard workouts but its all the same thing in the end. Most of the time they are ineffective in the long run (i.e. all these 30, 90 days to a "total body makeover" type books). All require a fully equipped home gym, space for a gym and considerable amount of time per day to complete(60 minutes plus)and severely restrictive diets to go along with them - so most people start enthusiastic then give up over time.
I was intrigued by this book becuase the writer is not one of these celeb trainers but he trains ( and still does) special forces/ops military personnel using body weight exercises only. I also like the fact they can be done anywhere with no equipment, there are tons of variations, no gimmicks and can be done in less than 30 minutes and NO CARDIO!!! - he explains why cardio is really a waste of time and energy. He provides the exercises (plus pictures), the routines recommended for each level, proper eating and his personal history plus his findings based on over a decade of training military special ops troops. I already began his exercise program and literally I will never go back to "old school/old thinking" workouts again. Its very effective ( I am seeing changes in less than 2 weeks), I can do it anytime with NO equipment, its VERY challenging but doable, there are endless variations and most workouts can be completed in less than 20 minutes!!!! The best surprise was who knew body weight exercises could be so effective - WOW!

    Recommended

Great information, extremely useful, rare to find an expert on fitness with reams of experience offer such practical tips on a life time of exercise. My only complaint would be that the charts which form a large part of the fitness program -- the later chapters -- are almost useless in the Nook format -- the charts were not re-sized to fit well or to be legible on a Nook Classic. It made me wish I had bought the hard copy instead. This is the only thing that keeps me from rating this book as excellent in every way.

Well Worth the Price of the Free Gym

I got this book in the brick and mortar store and used it for about four weeks so far. I was truly surprised at the results. I got stronger and more muscular. Be warned: this workout will kick your butt if you're not used to working out. The first exercise session made me unbelievably sore for two weeks, then I recovered and was able to work out again. The iPhone app is probably easier to use thn the outline in the book.

You really do save money on this program because there's no gym equipment to buy. I trained in a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers, all stuff I had already.

This book is VERY good. Mark Lauren explains everything very clearly, and yet is able to teach you everything from the basics to the advanced of nutrition, motivation, physical activity, and etc. He is also someone who knows exactly what he is talking about, because he is a spec ops trainer who has seen his results on the over 1000 soldiers he has trained. If you want to get fit easily and quickly with only your body, and want to stay like that no matter your age, then this book is definitely for you. But don't take my word for it, just look at all of the other reviews. Notice how all except two of the reviews that give it three stars or less don't have words, and the two that do are obviously not something to base your decision on. Bottom line, this book is amazing. If you still aren't sure, go to your local Barnes and Nobles, find the book, and see what I mean.

    This program works

This book is written in a simple easy to understand format. He quickly explains why his techniques work citing science and his personal experience with the U.S. military. The concise workouts are relatively easy to fit into your day, and more importantly they work. I'm very happy with the results I've gotten, and intend to do this type of exercise for the rest of my life.

    Great info

I like the "no gym" concept because we can do a lot of this work without fancy machines. There are still a few things i will keep my gym membership for.

Take control of your body's direction - no more excuses.

You Are Your Own Gym (YAYOG for short) helps you take control of your body. You don't need to join a gym; you don't need to buy a treadmill. This book will guide you through your own physical transformation. Mark Lauren lays out exercises you can do with no special equipment with descriptions and photographs. The exercises have modifications to make them suitable for all levels of users - from the beginner to the well-sculpted fitness expert. I am using the book to change my life and I highly recommend it.

Easy to follow and good info

Great book for body weight exercises and how to develop an exercise program at home. One warning the author uses different terms for some exercises then those from popular fitness magazines.

    Horrible Book

This book reads like it was written by a second grader. It is the worst exercise book that I have read. Mark Kling has no idea what he is talking about. And yes that is Mark Laurens real name.

Really, really misleading. You need lots of equipment to do these workouts fully. If you just want to work your body with body weight and maybe a bar, you are better off with convict conditioning.
