I tremendously enjoyed reading your manuscript. For me, this is a landmark book in this field. There isn’t one thing I don’t agree with or say amen to. This is a very readable book that contains powerful spiritual truth. It will exhort, inspire, and mobilize people. It challenges, but not in a harsh way. I fell that the spirit it’s written in is equally as significant as the subject matter itself. I pray this can get printed and out in the public as soon as possible.
Those who read this book will get a deeper sense of purpose on how and why we should reach the lost. Tom’s personal experiences woven into each chapter bring life to each chapter to make for interesting reading. His chapter on “The Ministry of the Evangelist” is thought provoking to pastors who may not see the importance of the gifting of the evangelist in the church today.
Tom Shanklin and his wife Susan are both part of the baby-boomer generation that sprung up in America after the end of the Second World War. Rejecting what they saw as the hypocrisy of mainstream society, they embraced the hippie lifestyle in the ‘70s and became involved in a life of drug use and experimenting with various forms of religion and spirituality.
In 1977, they both had dramatic spiritual encounters and their lives were radically transformed by the living Christ. Jesus became real to them and He became the Lord of their lives. Their ministry was birthed out of that transformation along with a desire to see others come to Christ. They served as pastors in various local churches in Minnesota and North Dakota for 22 years, along with traveling nationally and internationally, and publishing the Gospel in various forms, including a Christian newspaper called the Heartland News.
The focus of their ministry since 2005 has been evangelism, cross-cultural missions, and living the Christian life in practical ways with their family and in their community. Tom and Susan have three grown children and three grandchildren who give them great joy.
Tom Shanklin is a gifted minister of the Word of God who is motivated by a desire to see people reunited with God, healed (spiritually, emotionally, and physically), and filled with a sense of their divine purpose in life. He preaches in a simple and practical way that people of all ages, nations, and denominations can receive. Tom ministers within the United States as well as internationally encouraging people in their walk with God and exalting the message of the cross of Jesus Christ as the answer to their deepest need.
