Osteen (Your Best Life Now) has his cultural and theological critics even as millions of followers enjoy his television broadcasts and buy his books. The pastor of the 45,000-member Lakewood Community Church in Houston acts as cheerleader and encourager, as pastors ought to do. The newest iteration of his simple belief system offers eight maxims to help a person understand and imitate the qualities of a successful individual: commit to excellence, serve others, etc. Osteen's eight undeniable winner qualities include the quintessentially American injunction to "think positive," and the book reads as much as business advice or self-help as it does pastoral counsel. It's clearly intended to speak beyond a small Christian audience; references to biblical sources and stories are general and lack detail. The question thoughtful people of faith ought to consider in thinking about Osteen's fast-food theology is, why are people eating it up? The question for booksellers is how many copies to stock. Agents: Shannon Marven and Jan Miller Rich, Dupree Miller & Associates. (Oct.)

When I started reading You Can, You Will: 8 Undeniable Qualities of a Winner by Joel Osteen, I was immediately attracted to the energy and encouraging message of his words. This is my first book from Joel. I guarantee that you will probably stay up to midnight trying to finish this book. I have been reading it since it became available for purchase on my Nook, but I came back to buy a real copy to underline and highlight the words that really impacted me. The key concept in the book of running a race is woven through the chapters, as is how to deal with the setbacks and challenges of everyday life are revealed and how to overcome your obstacles to success. You Can, You Will: 8 Undeniable Qualities of a Winner by Joel Osteen is an encouraging book to read and I highly recommend it. I'd also recommend that you buy another great book that help change my life and actually brought me closer than ever to my mother, it's call When God Stopped Keeping Score. When God Stopped Keeping Score is an intimate, yet unflinching look at the power of God and forgiveness. It too is a must a read and you will understand why when you read it.

This is another hit by Joel he will inspire with his words. Those giving poor reviews are those who have never read his books and just giving personal opinion. Take the time to make your own opinion!

Good self help book The book has some useful self help advice like keeping your goal in view, avoiding negative people and people who manipulate you, and having a positive attitude and expecting good things. Some of the examples in this book have been given before in other books and sermons such as Joel's hairdresser who Joel had to get away from because she was bringing him down with her problems. I think Joel is not on point with his chapter on excellence, where he advises employees that the way to succeed is to go the extra mile and come in early and work late, don't get coffee or wander around the office, etc. and you'll be rewarded with promotions. Anyone working in an office knows the people that get promoted are frequently the ones who do the opposite but know how to play office politics. Joel has never worked for anyone but himself and his father. If he would have worked in an office for an employer he would know that advice is not the way to succeed. It is good advice if you are working for yourself since you will benefit from going the extra mile in everything you do. I don't think Joel does a good job mixing religion with self help. The religion part comes off as a throw in to make a point and he leans more heavily on the Old Testament than the New Testament. If you want to read a religion-based self help philosophy then Norman Vincent Peale is the author to read. Joel also has never graduated from a divinity school (or even graduated college) or been ordained as a minister. Nobody ever seems to question his lack of credentials as a pastor. He is basically a layman who gives good self help advice under the guise of being a preacher. I also noticed on at least three occasions that sentences were missing a preposition, specifically it looked like the word OF was missing. While Joel is going on about his commitment to excellence, somebody did not proofread this relatively short book and notice the missing words.

You did it again, Joel Osteen!!! You are one blessed man, Joel!!! Can one significant factor that drives your success be the fact that I have never heard you pass judgment or make false allegations toward others. Perhaps, it is this main principle of the BIBLE that you determinedly follow that continues to make you a sincere, authentic, positive preacher!! Thank you so much for this book Joel Osteen. This book is making a positive difference in my life and in the life of others around me. THANK YOU!!!!

You Can, You Will written by the Senior Pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, Joel Osteen, is a book about eight undeniable biblical qualities of a winner. Each chapter is about one of these eight qualities and how if you apply them to your life they will help you reach your God given destiny. Among other things, Pastor Joel encourages the reader to be optimistic, serve others, and start each new day with enthusiasm. I enjoyed chapter four the most because it was about having a positive mindset. It talked about if you say something negative on your life, it is bound to happen because that is where your focus is. However, if you focus on the positive and stay thankful, God will work all things together for your good. This has helped my life because I would often be a pessimist and then wonder why things did not turn out positive. I will begin applying all the principles I learned in You Can, You Will to my life. I recommend others read this inspiring book!

Joel Osteen shares eight undeniable qualities of winners that can help you reach your potential and achieve new levels of success in your life. Although I agree with Joel’s eight qualities, one in particular stands out to me. Not because I think it’s the most important quality, but, working as a professional in the “real” world, KNOW first hand, the following to be true: We live in a society in which mediocrity is the norm. Many people do as little as they can to get by. They don’t take pride in their work or in who they are. If somebody is watching, they may perform one way, but when nobody is watching they’ll cut corners and take the easy way out. If you re not careful, you can be pulled into this same mentality where you think it’s okay to show up late to work, to look less than your best, or to give less than your best. But God doesn’t bless mediocrity. God blesses excellence. Commit to Excellence Not only does Joel identify the necessary qualities, he provides stories of individuals who put them into practice and reached a level of success they wouldn’t have otherwise. Joel encourages you to participate in the process, be patient, and never give up.

God has already given you what it takes to win. The talents are there. The “smarts” are there. You have already had the right experiences. And you certainly have the right personality. There is no lack. Right now is our time, our moment. Joel Osteen has created these eight qualities and he gives us ways that we can implement them in our lives. Plus he tells us the greatest stories of those that have come before us. I believe that “You Can, You Will” is a book that each one of us should read and then keep close by so that we can refer back to it. I also believe that this would be a great gift to give to family and friends so that they can change the world as well. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from FaithWords.
