Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A lie detection expert for the FBI, CIA, and ATF shares the tricks of the trade in this helpful, easy-to-digest guide to spotting deception in our daily lives. Driver (You Say More Then You Think), who maintains that “the truth can be found in the details,” shares a five-step plan to get to the truth behind the lie: “We’re not looking for the lie; we’re looking for the truth.” She explains the importance of establishing a baseline for a potential fibber’s normal behavior and manner of speaking and build rapport with him or her before examining verbal indicators, facial expression, and body language that may point to deceit. Driver’s lessons are clearly illustrated with examples that range from public scenarios (such as Brad and Angelina’s body language while at a film screening when he was still with Jennifer Aniston or Tiger Woods’s press conference after he was caught cheating on his wife) to people we meet in daily life, such as car salesmen and pickup artists, and personal anecdotes from Driver’s students (who claim the program has changed their lives). Visual and verbal “homework” and self-tests aim to sharpen readers’ deception-detection skills. Though involving a lot of work, Driver’s formula is well explained and promises powerful results. Awesome book, I can't put it down!! I expected this to be a good
reference book with some techniques I could utilize during my
investigations/interviews (I'm an investigator), and while it is a great
reference book it is so much more. Its a rarely seem positive spin on a
valuable topic. interlaced with a good amount of humor. It's not only
detecting deception/lies it is also detecting honesty. It is a must
read and reference, but it now!!

I can't report on the entire book. I can report on the marketing
tactics being exceptional. The book jacket copy - awesome. It has this
ability to pull you in and keep you there. Do you need to read this?
No. But you'll sure enjoy it. I found myself with my jaw siting on my
chest many times; you know the pose, one to catch flies? Or llaughing
hilariously and not being able to stop except when you must laboriously
take a breath. If I were an author selling my first book, I'm sure I
would consult what must be a team of people who wrote this book. So
I've many boxes to check today.

    Just okay

There isn't a lot in this book that is a big "AH-HA" unless you are totally oblivious to your surroundings. The best I can say is that the "facts" are just confirmation of what I already observed.

I just saw her on the Today Show! I have to say it impressed me. I
already have read her other book, You Say More Than You Think, it was a
great read, but this book... WOW... That is all I can say. It has made
me look at the world with a different perspective. She reiterates
"not being a mindreader." I definitely could have used this a
couple months back, while I was in a problem with my relationship. Not
only does this book give you insight into detecting deception and
monitoring your own body language, but it also give you hope for a
better outlook in life. She give you the skill set that you can use
right away, and quite frankly her tonality throughout the book makes it
an exciting read. I could recommend you all to read this, but I don't
think you all are ready to receive this treasure trove. I would rather
just keep all these skills to myself.

This book is AMAZING! I picked it up after I saw Janine on the Today Show last week. It really has helped me in my personal and professional life. You Can't Lie to Me has so many exercises that you can try at home or in the office. The book has helped me become more aware of who is lying and who is telling the truth. It actually is really important to be able to determine someone's baseline so then you can figure out when they are lying. I wish I had this book earlier in my life so I could have saved myself from some liars!

    Ignore the negative reviews!

Everytime a woman author is forthcoming about personal experience, molestation, pedaphiles, and other sorts of male dominant vile actions against child and woman, there's always some monster loving critic who shoots down the bok. Don't waste your time reading the 2 negative reviews posted in May, 2013. The author is organized, metering out what could be dry information, with interludes of real life narrative, peppered with her innate humor. Love this author.

Not Worth Your Precious Fee Time Or $$$

I have never wasted my time on a negative book review before, but this read is to useless to ignore. The content is all over the place. This author is I'm afraid just a bit full of herself, rambling without real sentence structure and name dropping. She could write a book on kissing butt. The repetition of regular common sense is irritating and insulting. The videos in the e-book form have no point except that you see she speaks just as she writes. Her student testimonials belong somewhere else not throughout the book. This author apparently gives no attention to just listening without the mental flitting around like a moth. The overall flow of this reading is cluttered and unorganized. She gives no mention of, when people say nothing. The baseline technique is impractical; a stranger is just that, a stranger. This baseline should be a chapter of it's own that only applies to someone you know over time. I doubt you teach a person to see "BS", you get it or you don't. This could be an interesting more organized read but missed the mark by far. Boring and rambling and I'm not lying.

I loved this book, so many people lie in our lives, it becomes frustrating.  Just from reading this book and also very interested in deception , I have watched people lie and related it to what I read it the book.  I watched my husband lie in court and saw his lies with his body positioning, movements, and the fake cry.   It was like he was right out of the book.   I want another book if there is one written.I
I have watched Janine Driver on Dr Phil as well after I read the book.  I hope she writes more.    I have also referred the book to a civil rights lawyer who knows there are liers, liers, liers out there. I said there is a lot more to detecting lies by what the eyes are saying.    Diana
