Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Cecily von Ziegesar's Gossip Girls have bantered and battled through multiple volumes, but fans still wonder how the Blair/Serena/Nate love triangle really began. It Had to Be You: The Gossip Girl Prequel unlocks that mystery and several others. Suffice it to say that this backstory will reconfigure your sense of the Gossip Girl galaxy.
Children's Literature - Kathleen Foucart
The second book in the "Gossip Girl: The Carlyles" series picks up with Baby being allowed to stay at Constance Billard, and a lot of drama. Baby's "punishment" is to work on the school's literary magazine, where she meets kindred soul Sydney and the two become fast friends. The only problem—Baby's boyfriend JP does not exactly fit in with her new bohemian friends, and when Avery loses her hold over popular Jack, her social circle falls apart… except for the old ladies on Constance's board! While Owen continues to pine silently for Rhys's ex-girlfriend, Rhys plans to get her back, but one little date auction will change all of the Carlyle's relationships for better or for worse. Like many of the "Gossip Girl" and "It Girl" novels, there is too much under-age drinking without consequences, so readers who are uncomfortable with those situations should be aware before picking up this series. "Gossip Girl" fans will nonetheless eat up this newest addition to the collection, and new fans might find their way into the series along with the newcomers, the Carlyle triplets. The Carlyles #2

This book was good and all, but I don't think I'll be reading any more from this spin-off series. The plot isn't interesting enough to keep my attention like the original Gossip Girl series did. It's becoming a bit too predictable.

    ~QUESTION~

hey everyone! This is not a review but a question (sorry about this but I don't know anyone who has read these books yet and was hoping someone who has already read this book could help). I was wondering does this book have anything to do with the 1st book's characters? For example: Jenny,Blair,Dan,Serena, etc. If you answer my question thank you.Have a great day.

P.S who are Baby, Owen, and Avery?

The Carlyle triplets are back in the spotlight and shaking up Manhattan.

Baby's decided that Manhattan looks good right now, and that includes J.P. With that decision made, she has to worm her way back into the heart of Constance Billard. All she has to do is revive the school's art magazine. Will her bohemian ways match the artsy direction of the magazine and push her further away from the elite crowd?

Avery's busy with board meetings with ladies at least fifty years older than she is. The almost daily meetings consists of gossip and very little else. It's hard to imagine that Avery's almost friendless, but will the last remains for her reputation be shot now that the word is out that she's never had a boyfriend?

Owen's having his own love troubles. He's still hung up on Kelsey, but since Rhys adores her, he's trying to stay away from her. But sooner or later, they're going to have to confront their emotions.

The scandalous secrets flow from the new socialites and they'll do almost anything to stay on top. How far is too far?

This is one series that will grab your attention and not let go.

better to read this then to watch my fav show the HIlls

This book was really good and I always think everyone in the book is 21 because they act like the girls from the mtv show the hills. If you like the show the Hills and gossip girl and the new 90210 then you will LOVE this book!
Avery is a girl who acts like she was born in 1932! She is smart and classy and she wants to be just like her famous grandmother. She is described as so beautiful that she is one of those super pretty girls who never have a boyfriend and you would think because she is so pretty she would have one. I think she might go well with Rhys Sterling or J.P.? Or a new guy should be added to the story.Avery wants a boyfriend but I think she will learn that she can be happy without a boyfriend and she will learn to be happy without a guy.
Baby is Avery's younger sister by 7 minutes. Baby is bohemian like her mom Edie. She is also very pretty and she seems like one of those girls who just goes through boyfriends and she is learning about herself and what kind of guy is best for her.
Owen is Avery and Baby's brother and he and Kelsey seem like a good pair but Jack has a major crush and I wonder if the series will have Owen be in love with both girls? And the girls will be friends and find out? he might be the guy the girls fight over.
Kelsey seems like she would be a good friend to baby but Kelsey likes Owen and Rhys? So she will start drama for a little.
Jack reminds me of blair from gossip girl.
I can't wait to find out what happens next! This series is really good!
I love reading about the city ,fashion, and, drama!

    What?

    Dear Anonymous of 11/2/08:

How can you possibly judge a book--so brutally, no less--when you cannot even write a complete, gramatically correct sentence? If you are a teen (please say yes), you better start paying attention in school, because that sort of writing will never make it in the real world. Get your act together before you spout off about someone else's work.

    Forever Young

I truly believe that the Gossip Girl series is written for those of us over the age of 16. I mean it's about teens but in a grown up way. Does that make sense? All the books are amazing. I do miss the original characters though.

    Cecily Von Ziegsar Is AMAZING!

For anyone unsure of this book, read all of her books! I was never a big reader until I read the first Gossip Girl in college and now I'm addicted! I will buy any of her books the day it is released and will read it in a day. Her writing really puts you in the story and you feel as if you become one of the characters. Plus think of how great it will be when the triplets hit the CW hit Gossip Girl! I do agree that anyone under 15 or even 16 should not read the book and also remember it is a work of fiction and don't try it at home.

I agree that alot of people say that the swearing and sex is bad and they won't read the book just because of that. I think that you should give the series another chance. They get better and better with every book. I also think that this series could be gearing up to be bigger and better then the first gossip girl series. Get ready for another wild ride of parties, drama, love, and of course... gossip.

The first book was great and I bet that the second book will be too. I've read a lot of gossip girl books and none of them were boring. So I say that this is a must read for all gossip girl lovers!

    Cecily has done it again!

Um, in case you haven't noticed, BRIANNA or whatever your name is, the plot synopsis for You Just Can't Get Enough has not even been written yet. If you had looked clearly, you would see that the synopsis is for It Had to be You, the Gossip Girl prequel. I loved The Carlyles I think Cecily did a wonderful job on creating new characters but still staying true to the setting, and of course, Gossip Girl. I can't wait for You Just Can't Get Enough, and I'm looking forward to reading the REAL plot synopsis.
