Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Released in 1963, 1962, and 1964, respectively, this trio of James Bond adventures brought the spy into the Swingin' Sixties as he was finding a second, more popular life as a screen hero with the 1962 feature film release of Dr. No, starring Sean Connery. Bond on paper is vastly different than on film: there is a lot less dependence on the cool gadgets and technology, and his character is more vulnerable. The books, however, still offer plenty of action and are genuine page-turners. The character's unending popularity will lead fans to the original source material. You Only Live Twice is arguably on of Ian Fleming's best novels. His descriptions of Japan are truly memorable and the characters couldn't be more interesting. It is quite a challenge, though, to imagine Blofeld's castle and Garden of Death. I loved every single page and absorbed the dialogue. An exquisite masterpiece!
